Childhood and youth
The biography of Dmitry Mikhailovich Lipskerov began on February 19, 1964 in a family of famous Muscovites. His father Mikhail Fedorovich was a screenwriter of popular animated series ("The Wolf and the Calf", "Robbery by ..."), a screenwriter and a Jew by nationality, and his mother Inna was the music editor of the State House of Radio Recordings.

The boy's early years could not be called carefree. When Dima was 9 years old, his parents divorced. Due to the constant employment of Mikhail and Inna, the child spent most of the time outside the home - first in a nursery and a kindergarten, then in a boarding school. Despite this, Lipskerov Jr. retained boundless respect and love for the personality and work of his father.
However, the relationship with his mother developed in the opposite way for the future writer. In one of his interviews, Dmitry admitted that he still does not understand the reasons for the woman's cruel treatment to him. The fact is that in their youth, every weekend Lipskerova passed the same way - Inna fell on her child for any offense and flogged with a belt. She was especially angered by the comments in the school diary from the teachers.
After each such outburst of anger, the woman felt remorse and atoned for her sins in front of her son with tears and kisses. Dmitry said that his mother has always been his main sick love. His grandmother replaced his parents. It was in her apartment that Lipskerov composed his first works.
After graduating from school, the guy successfully passed the exams at the Boris Shchukin Theater Institute, where he studied from 1981 to 1985. During his student days, he managed to take part in the filming of the film directed by Georgy Shchukin "Special Unit".
Despite the first success of work in the frame, Dmitry decided to follow his father's advice and start, like him, writing plays. One of them, entitled "River on the Asphalt", fell into the hands of theater and film director Mark Zakharov. The master highly appreciated the work of the novice playwright and compared it with A.P. Chekhov.

When Lipskerov was 23 years old, he was invited to a theater studio run by actor Oleg Tabakov. The talented young man was very flattered by such an offer, which opened up new professional horizons for him. However, not only luck and connections were the reason for Dmitry's success - he worked at that time 12 hours a day.
For many years the play by the playwright "River on the Asphalt" appeared in the Lenkom theater's repertoire along with his other work - "School of Emigrants" in 1988. In the first half of the 90s, the talented author moved to America, but after 2 years he returned to his homeland.

Although Lipskerov's dramatic career began quite successfully, he never returned to plays. In 1996, his first novel, 40 Years of Changjoe, was published and published in the New World magazine. A year later, it began to be published as a separate book. The work gained popularity and was shortlisted for the Russian Booker Prize.

That is why, together with State Duma deputy Andrei Skoch, he developed and implemented one interesting project - the Debut Literature Prize. However, according to Dmitry, drama is a somewhat dependent type of creativity, which is unacceptable for a freedom-loving person.
