Producer and director, DJ Caruso began working for television before making a career in film. Cinephile from a young age, graduating with a License in television and cinema at the University of Pepperdine, Caruso began as a production assistant at Disney studios. From 1987, he began a rich collaboration with director John Badham, whom he would accompany on many of his films. He won his first stripes in 1991 with The Strong Way, an action comedy bringing together James Woods and Michael J. Fox. He then worked on productions as different as Code Name: Nina, Assured Indiscretion, Murder in suspense and Drop Zone, for which he directed the aerial sequences.


Caruso then multiplies the experiences of television staging by tackling TV films and episodes of series. From his first feature film, Salton sea (2001), he revealed a particular propensity for film noir, juggling surrealism and humor with heterogeneous characters - notably Val Kilmer as a vengeful jazz musician. It is also the first production of his company Humble Journey Films , created with Eriq La Salle and Butch Robinson.


Remained in the vein of the thriller, he chooses Angelina Jolie alongside a very French cast (Olivier Martinez, Tchéky Karyo and Jean-Hugues Anglade) for the needs of Taking lives, destinies violated in 2002. He then directs Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey in the thriller Two for the Money (2004), before returning to the thriller in 2007 with Paranoiak, a story of voyeurism and murder that borrows freely from Hitchcock, starring young Shia LaBeouf.


He found the latter the following year for a new shock thriller, The Eye of Evil, this time putting a foot in science fiction. A genre that the director explores in more detail in 2011 with Number Four. There he directs an Alex Pettyfer with devastating superpowers, whose life is threatened by mysterious strangers. After having directed the unknowns Standing Up and The Disappointments Room, DJ Caruso tackles the blockbuster xXx: Reactivated, sequel to xXx (2002) and xXx 2: The Next Level (2005), carried by the indefatigable Vin Diesel in the skin from an extreme athlete who became an elite agent.
