Childhood and youth
The future writer was born in 1964 in Berkshire, whose center is the town of Redding (homograph of the word Reading - "reading") - mentioned in the works of Herbert Wells, J.K. Rowling and Oscar Wilde. The exact place of birth is the village of Angfield. In an interview, Setterfield says that the doctor and midwife who gave birth to the mother were distracted by observing the deer walking behind the fence of the estate, and left the woman in childbirth to cope with the contractions and attempts on her own.
The writer has many cousins and cousins, as well as two younger sisters, one of whom, after reading The Thirteenth Tale, apologized for hitting Diana with a tape recorder at the age of 6. Career
At the beginning of her career, Setterfield taught English at the Graduate School of Chemistry, located in the French city of Moulouse on the border with Germany, and the University of Haute Alsace, located there. The future bestselling author then lectured in French at British universities.
Setterfield liked to teach, but the university leadership overwhelmed employees with bureaucratic work, and the woman did not have time for her favorite pastime - reading. In the late 1990s, Diana quit her job at university and set up a firm to teach French to immigrants. Setterfield soon concentrated on writing. Curiously, in the year of the release of Diana's first novel, an explosion in the laboratory destroyed the building of the Moulouse School of Chemistry.

Now the Setterfield bibliography contains several novels, the first of which Diana thought about for 3 years and wrote for another 3 years. The Thirteenth Tale is a compilation of plots and characters from Setterfield's favorite books. Nevertheless, the work topped the rating of the New York Times. At the end of 2013, a film adaptation of the novel with Vanessa Redgrave as Lady Winter was released.
Setterfield's second novel, Bellman and Black, or The Stranger in Black, published in 2013, was less successful. This is a mystical story about starting a business against the backdrop of a mental disorder. Mr. Bellman shot a rook in adolescence, and the birds take revenge on the hero all their lives.
