Biography
Derek Cianfrance is passionate about film. The filmmaker began making small films at the age of 13. He then turned to film studies at the University of Colorado. After making a few short films, the director went on to feature brilliantly in 1998. His first film, Brother Tied, was very noticed, notably at the Sundance Festival where the work was screened.
Derek then devoted himself to making musical documentaries before returning to film in 2010. His second film, Blue Valentine, is a poignant drama starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. The film, presented at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival in the Un certain regard section, was a success, notably earning an Oscar nomination for best actress for the
Three years later, the filmmaker reunites with Ryan Gosling for The Place Beyond the Pines. In this thriller, the actor has this time for partners the dark Bradley Cooper and the Latin bombshell Eva Mendes.
