Johnyboy, despite his young age, is called one of the best rappers in the post-Soviet space and the best performer in Latvia. For the past couple of years, the rapper has not been active on the music front, which is very worried about the army of his fans.

Denis Olegovich Vasilenko (this is the name of Jonboy in life) was born in the Latvian city of Salaspils, not far from Riga, at the end of November 1991.

About Denis's childhood is known only from a few interviews of the singer, and in them he says that he told about himself in songs. The father left the family due to alcoholism when the child was 3 years old and, although he lived in a neighboring house, did not communicate with his son.

Until the age of 15, the boy did not have a computer, so he spent his free time actively, on the street, playing football. Once the opportunity arose to go to study in England, but Denis decided to finish school in Riga, because he thought it would be more difficult to return from England to the musical community of Latvia and Russia. And besides, rap has already taken over his mind and soul. By the age of 16, Vasilenko had developed his own ideas, the first song was recorded at a school studio. In general, Denis was introduced to rap by his mother, who was listening in Eminem's car. Later, the guy got acquainted with the work of Noize MC, Russian rappers.

From his first earnings at a metallurgical plant, Denis bought a computer to participate in Internet battles. At first, as Vasilenko admitted, he was engaged in trolling on specialized sites. I also met MC and beatmakers there.

In two years, the aspiring musician won three such meetings, including the largest hip-hop battle InDaBattle 2. The victories brought the realization that it was time to bring the network hobby to concert venues, clubs, to living people. On one of the sites, Vasilenko met the Latvian rapper Sifo, who owned a recording studio. At Sifo, Denis recorded the first forty-second track under the pseudonym Johnyboy, friends organized the Undercatz group.

The nickname is Denis's nickname on the social network. Since the name John or Johny is widespread, the rapper added the word "boy" to stand out.

In 2010 Johnyboy released his first video "Summer in Moscow" and an unofficial demo album "Count to Ten". Denis signed a contract with Moshkanov Films. With the help of this company, several more videos were shot, including the highly acclaimed "Unborn", in which the rapper touched upon the problem of abortion. Denis Moshkanov, a well-known clip maker in the Baltics, has since become a manager and just a friend of Denis. The musician found this comparison pleasant, since both singers topped the charts, have millions of fans, are successful and do what they love, regardless of haters.

In the same year Johnyboy signed a contract with the creative management agency Universam Kultury, presented his next album, Past the Shadows, and reissued Cold for Russia. The collaboration lasted until the end of 2013, and finally the single "At any cost" was released.

For songs from the new album - "When we take off" and "Methamphetamir" - clips were shot. "Methamphetamir" took 7th place in the rating of the Rap.ru portal for 2012, Ksenia participated in the recording of the track.

Since 2013, Johnny has been among the best participants in the YouTube show Versus Battle, where he competed with the Moscow CD performer, St. Petersburg rapper Jubilee. After the battle with the last "green", according to some of the listeners, Denis had the nerve to challenge his colleague in the shop - Oxxxymiron. Oksimiron generously sent Joni to take the line.

In 2014, Joniboy released his third studio album, My Book of Sins, and the single Solitaire.

In April 2015, the most popular battle was the video with the confrontation between Joni and Oksimiron - over 30 million views. Only the meeting between Loonie / Abra and Shehyee / Smugglaz, held by the Philippine League FlipTop, could compare with him. Experience prevailed over youth: Denis lost outright. Rapper Schokk, on the wave of the statement that Oxxxymiron refuses to battle with him, said that Oksimiron agreed to meet with Joni only because of the views, moreover, he imposed the image of a pop boy on Jonboy, and that Joni fell into depression after the defeat.

Little is known about Johnny's relationship with the opposite sex. The first friend's name was Nadezhda Aseeva; according to unconfirmed information, the couple broke up in 2010.

A couple of years later, Denis met Anastasia Chibel, a student at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Riga. The girl published photos with Joniboy on her Instagram page, but in 2016 she closed access to the page and answered questions about her relationship with the rapper evasively or even jokingly.

In 2016, Joni was noted for a joint titled "Alcohol and Smoke" with Ivan Reys, with whom he had previously released the tracks "High" and "True Love". According to Ivan, Joni has no plans to return to the stage in the near future, but when this happens, he will gladly work with the young rapper.

Denis considers himself a great film fan and is ready to act in films, he even agrees to a minor role. By his own admission, Vasilenko, now he is headlong in business - he opened a chain of coffee shops in Riga, considered the possibility of buying a franchise of fast food restaurants, but there is no corresponding capital.
