Biography
Cornelius Crane Chase, known to audiences as Chevy Chase, is an American actor, comedian, and writer. It was with writing small comic stories that Cornelius began his career, and later, already in 1974, appeared on television screens as an actor. At the same time, the actor's image was formed - a kind of loser in comedy films with vulgar and vulgar humor. Film critics appreciated Chase's acting skills, giving him two Emmy awards.
fact
Childhood and youth
Cornelius Crane Chase was born on October 8, 1943 in Manhattan, New York and raised in Woodstock. The father of the future actor, Edward Tinsley "Ned" Chase, worked as a literary editor. Cornelius's mother is an ardent Catholic named Parker (nee Browning) who worked as a concert pianist and librettist.
His maternal grandfather, Admiral Miles Browning, served as Chief of Staff to Rear Admiral Raymond A. Spruns on the USS Enterprise (CV-6) aircraft carrier at the Battle of Midway in World War II. Chase's paternal grandfather, Edward Lee Chase, worked as an artist and illustrator. His maternal grandmother, Castalina, sang at the opera, including performing at Carnegie Hall.
The nickname "Chevy" from Cornelius appeared with the light hand of his grandmother - a descendant of the Scottish clan Douglas, and it is taken from a medieval English ballad called "Chevy Chase". Cornelius became the fourth generation of New Yorkers in the family.
His mother's ancestors came to Manhattan in 1624 - among the ancestors of the actor are the mayors of New York, Stephanus Van Cortland and John Johnston; the Dutch Schuyler family, John Maureen Scott, general of the New York militia during the American Revolution; Anne Hutchinson, dissident Puritan preacher and healer and colonial leader and spiritual elder of the Plymouth Colony, William Brewster.
Chevy's parents divorced when the boy was only four years old. Soon each of them created a new family. According to a biography written by Chase himself, as a child, mother and stepfather John Sederkist often used physical and psychological punishment in raising the boy. In 2005, the parents of the future actor passed away.
Chase received his general secondary education at first at the village boarding school of Riverdale, but he was soon expelled. He eventually graduated from the independent boarding school of Stockbridge. Then the young man studied at Haverford College in 1962-1963, from where he was expelled for antics and an absurd sense of humor.
In an interview in 2009, the actor said that the real reason for the expulsion was keeping a cow in his dorm room. However, roommate David Felson said in 2003 that Chase was expelled for academic debt. The young man then transferred to Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
Further, the young man faced a difficult choice: either go to university or go to serve in the army. Chevy never entered the university, but the army did not attract him either. In January 1989, Chevy Chase became a guest guest on the Pat Sayak television show, where he told viewers that he did not plan to join the army, it would be better to recognize himself as a homosexual.
In college, Chevy tried his hand at music - playing drums and keyboards. But it didn't work out with a musical career. Prior to the film industry, Chevy Chase worked as a taxi driver, truck driver, construction worker, waiter, fruit picker, supermarket manager, sound engineer, shop assistant.

In 1978, the actor gained fame for his role in the movie Dirty Play by Colin Higgins. But the actor's role in the Fletch dilogy brought wide popularity to the actor. In 1980, Chevy starred in the comedy Modern Problems and was seriously injured from an electric shock. As a result, the actor began a protracted depression associated with the divorce from his wife.
According to information posted on the Internet, at the peak of his acting career, Chevy Chase's fee was approximately $ 7 million per film. In total, the actor now has more than 80 films.
fact
Personal life

They divorced after a year and five months. The unofficial reason for the divorce in the media is called Chase's abuse of drugs, in particular cocaine, and side effects in the form of megalomania, paranoia.
In 1986, Chase went to the Betty Ford Clinic for treatment for pain reliever addiction. And in September 2016, the actor was already being treated for a problem related to alcohol.
