Biography
Corey Taylor is the lead singer of the cult band Slipknot. Now it is difficult to imagine the creativity of this team without his voice, but few people know that the history of the team could have turned out differently. The fact that Taylor had to go through a lot of difficulties, overcome alcohol addiction and even be one step away from death. Fortunately, the musician coped with the trials and continues to perform and record new compositions.
fact
Childhood and adolescence
The future rock idol was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 8, 1973. The boy's parents did not live together, and most of the time Corey spent with his mother and grandmother. The musician later admitted in an interview that "part of Slipknot" was embedded in his soul as a child: at the age of 6, Taylor watched the TV series "Buck Rogers in the 20th century", which impressed the boy with special effects.
The attraction to reincarnation and love for frightening masks also came from childhood: Taylor's favorite holiday was Halloween with its costumes and mesmerizing horror stories. Then there was also an interest in music - Cory's grandmother collected albums by Elvis Presley. As a teenager, Taylor chose heavier music, becoming a fan of "Black Sabbath".
Unfortunately, Corey's childhood was filled with not only joyful moments. At the age of 10, the boy became addicted to cigarettes and alcohol, and two years later he tried drugs for the first time. The addictions did not go unnoticed: twice Taylor found himself in a hospital bed because of an overdose of cocaine, and later long could not get rid of alcohol addiction.
The situation was saved by the young man's grandmother, who achieved official custody of his grandson, helped him to return to school and normal life and even insisted on playing music. At the age of 18, Taylor left home and began an independent life.
fact
Music
In his new place, Taylor met musicians Joel Ackman, Jim Ruth and Sean Economaki. The young people formed their own band called Stone Sour and even recorded two albums. However, the popularity was never achieved. And in 1997, Corey received an invitation that became a turning point in his biography: the musician was invited to join the aspiring team "Slipknot". Taylor agreed and left Stone Sour.
It was originally assumed that Corey Taylor would support the new team only during the tour, but eventually became the vocalist of "Slipknot". In addition to him, the band at that time included Sean Craven, Mick Thomson and Joey Jordison. Later, several other musicians joined the band.
Now it is hard to believe, but The first performance of Corey in "Slipknot" was, in the opinion of the rest of the team, unsuccessful. Remarkably, Taylor then performed without a mask. But the second concert in the group was much better: the musician perfectly "joined" the team, and his voice suited for the entire repertoire of the rock band.
At the same time there was a familiar mask covering the singer's face - with similar attributes were all members of the group. The style of the performers looked rather intimidating, but soon it became the hallmark of "Slipknot".
In the summer of 1999, the band released their debut album. According to the musicians, no one expected such success: in just a couple of weeks the album took the first place of various charts, and later became twice platinum in the number of sales in the United States. Two years later, the band released the next album, "Iowa", which gained no less popularity.
The next album "Slipknot", or rather its long absence, made the fans of the team rather nervous: there were rumors about the breakup of the band. However, in 2004, the band presented the long-awaited record, remembered by music fans songs "Before I Forget", "Vermilion", "Duality". And traditionally, the release of the album gave the start of a tour of the United States and other countries.
The discography of Corey Taylor and the band "Slipknot" continued with the album "All Hope Is Gone", which caused a lot of controversy. This record, released in 2008, according to some music fans, was a failure. Others called the album the best in the band's work. Anyway, the compositions "Snuff," "Psychosocical", "Sulfur" are still popular.
During his musical career, Corey Taylor also managed to participate in other projects: in the singer's piggy bank there are joint tracks with the teams "Apocalyptica", "Damageplan", "Steel Panther" and others. In addition, Corey performed a number of solo songs and returned to the "Stone Sour" project, with which he recorded a number of joint albums.
fact
Personal life
Corey Taylor's first serious novel was a relationship with Scarlett Stone. In 2002, she gave the musician a son Griffin Parker. It is also known that Corey already had a daughter, who was born in 1992. This relationship lasted 3 years after the wedding, after which the young people finally separated. The second wife of the singer was a girl named Stephanie Lubi.
Details of personal life and relationships the musician prefers not to advertise, but does not hide the difficulties through which he had to go through. In his autobiographical book Seven Deadly Sins, Corey shared with fans some of the details of his childhood as well as alcohol addiction. He even spoke about the suicide attempt, which he was prompted by the desperation and exposure to alcohol.
Following this book, the musician released two more, in which he talked about the path to success and what happens behind the scenes of the rock scene.
