fact
Childhood and youth
Gene Simmons, who was named Chaim Witz at birth, was born on August 25, 1949 in the Israeli city of Tirat Carmel. His mother, Flora Kovacs (Klein), was a Hungarian Jewish survivor of concentration camps during the Holocaust, and his father, Ferenc Ferry, Yehil Witz, was a native of the Jewish land who had become a carpenter in his youth.

The childhood of the future musician passed in difficult conditions, but this did not prevent him from playing the guitar that appeared from nowhere. Another activity that helped keep the poor family afloat was the collection and sale of wild fruits on the streets and roadsides.
However, there was still not enough money, and 8-year-old Haim immigrated to the United States of America with his mother and settled in New York in search of a better life. The father stayed in Israel with another son and three daughters.

The boy was probably angry with his parent, because in the first year of his stay in the new place he gave up his real name and began to introduce himself as Eugene Klein. At the same time, the mother, who took care of her son's education, briefly sent him to the private Jewish school Yeshiva Torah Vodaas, and then secured a transfer to a public educational institution.
It was there that the future rocker created teenage amateur groups Lynx, The Missing Links and The Long Island Sounds, which, along with the names, constantly changed their style and composition. The reason for this was the fickle musical tastes of the young man, who listened to everything from classical to melodic hard music. The guy was especially influenced by the work of the American rockabilly artist Jumpin 'Gene Simmons, whose abbreviated name later became used as a stage name.

Trying to resemble an idol as much as possible, the revitalized Gene began attending classes at Richmond College, and then transferred to the Sullivan County Institution of Higher Education in New York. But the still difficult financial situation prevented the aspiring musician from completing his education and forced him to make a living selling used comics, mentoring and editing Vogue magazine.
In his last position, Simmons achieved some success, allowing him to engage in creativity at the professional level.

Music
In the early 1970s, Gene, along with a young man now known as Paul Stanley, formed the group Wicked Lester and recorded a trial album at the professional studio Epic Records. This product, never presented to the public, did not satisfy the demanding musician, he tried to disband the team and repeat the experiment with a new line-up.

The members of the record resisted this decision, and Simmons left the group with Stanley, breaking the recently signed contract with the famous American label.
After a while, drummer Peter Criss joined the duo, which made the work on the mistakes, and then guitarist Ace Frehley responded to the announcement of the search for musicians. With this line-up, the collective, called KISS, released the album of the same name in 1974 and, with the help of Simmons' commercial vein, achieved success in organizing an extensive tour.
Paying great attention to appearance, the band members painted their faces, came up with costumes, and Jin reincarnated as The Demon, borrowing makeup from the Marvel comic book superhero Black Thunder.

As a result, KISS became the most entertaining group of our time, where the music written by Gene and Paul was organically combined with shocking movements, including the famous rocker gesture of 3 fingers, and bright pyrotechnic and lighting effects. A distinctive feature of Simmons, who is 188 cm tall and weighs 84 kg, was the demonstration of the "goat" against the backdrop of a protruding tongue and blood-fiery breezes that invariably caused fury and delight of the audience.
In the early 2000s, Jin, striving to make money on literally everything, tried to patent the "goat" and filed an application with the appropriate department.

The compositions, which belonged to the pen of the two founders of the group, were noticeably different in harmony and mood, some were mobile and cheerful, while others were pessimistic and gloomy. Once Stanley decided to prove that anyone can write a sad, heavy song, and brought a friend the lyrics and music of "God of Thunder". Simmons appreciated the experiment and, with minor modifications, approved the material for the 1976 recording.
Despite its popularity, KISS was constantly looking for new creative solutions and in 1978, on the eve of the release of the new album, they took up solo projects. Titled "Peter Criss", "Ace Frehley", "Paul Stanley" and "Gene Simmons", released simultaneously to the public, allowed each member to showcase their personal musical tastes, musical prowess and wide ranges of voices.
Simmons' solo album, containing songs in the style of funky and hard rock, took 22nd place in the American "Billboard", and after selling 1 million copies topped up his fortune and received the RIAA platinum certificate.
Another project that was not typical for the band's work was the shooting of the film "Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park" and performances without makeup, organized by Gene in 1983-1995. True, 10 years later, KISS regained their stage image and appeared in all their glory at the American Grammy Awards.

In the 2000s, after the termination of his contract with drummer Peter Chris, Simmons decided to rejuvenate the band and began collaborating with new musicians. The latter repeatedly spoke about preparing material for a new album, but until 2009 Paul and Jean did not support this initiative.
As a result, in 2004, The Demon released solo albums "Hole" ("Asshole") and "Speaking in Tongues", which included original compositions and songs based on the works of Bob Dylan and Frank Zappa. The records did not receive the expected recognition, and the musician stopped replenishing his individual discography for a while and devoted himself to concert activities with KISS and filming in American films and TV series.
fact
Films and television
Gene Simmons' filmography consists of dozens of roles in feature films and television series.
Starting with the fantastic action movie "Riot of Robots" ("The Fugitive"), where the musician appeared in the form of the scientist Charles Luther, the rocker enjoyed the filming process and became open to suggestions from producers and directors.
In 1987, the iconic KISS member played one of the central characters in Gary Sherman's action movie Take Alive or Dead, and then became director of the youth comedy Detroit - City of Rock. In the latest work, Gene did an advertisement for his own group, which raised interest in their work and increased sales of related attributes.
Other famous projects of the musician were episodes in the popular crime series "Castle" and "CSI Crime Scene In Las Vegas", as well as voice acting for the animated films "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "My Dad is a Rock Star."
fact
Personal life
An integral part of Simmons's biography were rumors of sexual exploits and the conquest of more than 5 thousand women, among which the most famous were the singers Diana Ross and Cher. In an interview with reporters, the musician did not deny this information and said that his success depends on the ability to make faces and a long tongue.

In his mature years, Jean, who regularly took care of his own appearance, underwent a number of plastic surgeries and strengthened his reputation as a ladies' man and womanizer.
However, the prevailing opinion did not prevent the vocalist and bass master from being in a relationship with Canadian model and actress Shannon Lee Tweed for many years and making her his wife in October 2011.

The details of his personal life and the methods of raising two adult children, Nicholas and Sophia, Simmons is pleased to demonstrate in the reality show "The Family Values of Jim Simmons", which has won the sympathy of viewers since 2006. In addition, photos of Jin with his son and daughter appear on the covers of glossy magazines as evidence of mutual understanding and friendship.
Other sources of information about the musician's secrets are Instagram and autobiographical books "Kiss & Make-Up" and "Sex Money Kiss".
