Cédric Anger

Born in 1975, Cédric Anger made his debut as a journalist at Cahiers du Cinéma. Entering this institution of the cinematographic press in the mid-90s, he signed numerous critical essays, as rich as they were relevant. From 2000, he put his pen to the service of the seventh art, collaborating on the writing of According to Matthieu, a family drama starring Nathalie Baye and Benoît Magimel behind Xavier Beauvois' camera. Collaboration that he renewed a few years later, with Le Petit Lieutenant, a moving police column with Baye once again at the head of the bill. The film won the 2006 César nominations, and its actress was awarded for her performance.

Rich in his experience as a screenwriter, Anger tried his hand at directing in 2002 with Novela, a short film with the (once again) detective theme. He then goes on in 2008, with The Killer, a dark and intriguing thriller, making Léo Zimmerman (Gilbert Melki), a businessman who seems to succeed everything, the prey of a hired killer, with mysterious motivations. The tone is set: a refined staging and tormented characters, against the backdrop of the detective universe: this is the director's signature, and L'Avocat, his second feature film, confirms it: Anger plunges Benoît into it. Magimel in a real legal trap. 

In 2014, Cédric Anger made his contribution to the screenplay of The Man We Loved Too Much, a drama by André Téchiné revisiting the tragic Agnelet affair, before slipping Guillaume Canet into the skin of the “Killer of the Oise” in La Next time I will aim for the heart. Four years later, the director re-teamed with the actor for L'Amour est une fête, a comedy set in the porn industry in 1982.
