Biography
In the early 1980s, the founder and member of the Modern Talking duo Dieter Bohlen discovered the world pop star - CC Catch. However, he equally had a hand in the singer's creative break - he did not want to accept her independence in time, to let her float freely. Nevertheless, now CC Catch remains a legend, her songs make the older generation indulge in nostalgia. Therefore, she is a frequent guest of retro concerts in different parts of the world.
fact
Childhood and youth
Carolina Katharina Müller was born on July 31, 1964 in the Dutch city of Oss in the family of the German Jürgen Müller and the Dutch woman Corrie (nee Trade).
From early childhood, the girl showed a remarkable interest in the scene. Parents supported her endeavors, although they wished for a different development of her biography for her daughter - they wanted Carolina to become a dressmaker. Actually, on their orders, after school, Mueller entered the design department, and in her free time she worked at a weaving factory.
In 1979, the Müller family moved to West Germany. Carolina quickly found something to her liking: already in 1980 she joined the German women's quartet Optimal, and she had to put an end to her career as a dressmaker. Parents favorably perceived the desire of their daughter to become a singer. A special role was played by his father, who at the beginning of Mueller's career acted as a tour manager and producer. In 1985 Dieter Bohlen took over these posts.
fact
Music
The Modern Talking participant heard Caroline Müller at one of the performances in Hamburg. On the same evening, Bohlen invited the girl to audition for his BMG studio and signed a contract, launching her solo career. He came up with the stage name CC Catch for the young talent, adding her initials (English Caroline Catherine) with the word catch (from English “catch”, “interception”), implying that such a voice, face and figure can “hook” any man.
The first result of the collaboration between CC Catch and Bohlen was the single "I Can Lose My Heart Tonight". He was originally composed for Modern Talking, but the German decided that the lyrics and music were too elementary for the band. In the performance of CC Catch, the track reached 13th place in Germany.
"I Can Lose My Heart Tonight" became an unconditional hit among 12 songs of the debut album "Catch the Catch" (1986), on the cover of which, by the way, a photo of the singer's pet. Composed in popular synth-pop and Eurodisco styles, it reached 6th place in Germany and Norway, and 8th place in Switzerland. Tracks "Cause You Are Young", "Jump in My Car" and "Strangers by Night" became especially popular. The authorship of all lyrics in the album, as well as their arrangement, belongs to Dieter Bohlen.
Eight months after its release, in December 1986, CC Catch's second album, Welcome to the Heartbreak Hotel, was released. Now each of the 10 tracks is well known not only to the older, but also to the modern generation, these are songs without which no theme party in the style of the 1980s can do.
The release was overshadowed only by the fact that the video for "Heaven and Hell", as well as the cover of the album, resemble Lucio Fulci's Italian horror "The Seventh Gates of Hell" (1981). Potential plagiarism was the reason for a short trial, which ended in favor of CC Catch and Bohlen.
In 1987 the track "Like a Hurricane" from the singer's album of the same name burst into the radio station. Although all 9 songs rattled from speakers in many countries around the world, the disc only earned a mention in the charts of Spain (25th place) and Germany (30th place). A year later, CC Catch released "Big Fun", the most famous songs of which are "Backseat Of Your Cadillac" and "Nothing But a Heartache".
CC Catch and Bohlen worked together until 1989, releasing 12 singles and 4 albums. As a result, 8 singles entered the top 20 world charts, one album was awarded a top 10 hit.
The reason for the creative spat was Bohlen's unwillingness to give his ward a little freedom. If in her youth an inexperienced singer could sing songs written by someone without a twinge of conscience, then with age she wanted to add a grain of her personal life to the material. Bohlen's categorical refusal was the reason for parting with the BMG label.
It is noteworthy that CC Catch had to fight for the stage name - Bohlen believed that the rights to the pseudonym belonged to him. At the court proceedings, the authorship of the singer was recognized.
On the eve of the Spanish New Year TV show, CC Catch met Simon Napier-Bell, the former manager of Wham! Soon he took the singer under his wing and secured her a contract with Metronome. Her first and only album on this label is called "Hear What I Say", it was released in 1989.
Ex-Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor, and Dave Clayton, who has worked with George Michael and U2, helped create the final CC Catch studio album. The singer co-wrote seven out of 10 songs. Hear What I Say sold more than Big Fun and Diamonds: Her Greatest Hits (1988) combined, reflecting CC Catch's ability to work as a freelance artist on its own terms.
The album contains not only synth-pop and eurodance, but also house, funk, as well as new-jack-swing popular in those years. The lack of fresh records in the CC Catch discography since 1989 does not mean that her creative career is over. So, in 1991, the singer first visited the Soviet Union. She performed at a charity concert dedicated to the victims of the Chernobyl accident.
At the same time, CC Catch parted ways with Metronome on good terms, and devoted her free time to spiritual development, meditation, yoga and writing new songs. Only in 1998, the artist took the stage again, creating a duet with the German rapper Krayzee.
CC Catch did not formally release new albums, Dieter Bohlen took care of this - he circulated collections of the best hits and remixes one after another. A total of 12 albums were released between 1990 and 2011. They do not contain a single fresh song.
However, CC Catch pleases its longtime fans with rare updates. For example, in 2004 she recorded the single "Silence", which reached number 47 in Germany. In 2010, the premiere of the song "Unborn Love", recorded with Juan Martinez, took place. It was planned that she would be the first from the new album, but the creative collaboration did not take place.
The most recent song from CC Catch is “Another Night In Nashville”, co-recorded with Chris Norman, ex-Smokie guitarist, in 2014.
fact
Personal life
CC Catch was credited with an affair with Dieter Bohlen, but no actual evidence of this was found: in the 1980s, a German raised three children with his wife.
In 1998, the singer found a loving husband who worked as a yoga instructor. Their relationship lasted 3 years.
As far as we know, CC Catch is now free and childless. Lives in Germany.
