At the age of 5, Brian Ortega began studying at Al Martinez Muay Thai Kickboxing, and at the age of 13 he moved to the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy (GJA) to master Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Rener Gracie, one of the GJA trainers, is now the head mentor of T-City.

Despite the newfound life purpose, the early period of Brian Ortega's biography was not cloudless. The reason lies in the setting. Not wanting to be in an apartment full of people, T-City spent a lot of time outside. At the age of 14, he joined a gang and became interested in petty crime, once even ended up in prison.
