In high school, Brandon tried to write similar stories, but they were not interesting, and then the decision came to get a profession and, on the advice of his mother, go to the biochemistry department.

At a university far from his parents, Sanderson's intentions quickly changed. After a leave of absence from missionary work in South Korea, he began studying literature and eventually earned a bachelor's degree in creative writing.

In his final years, the young man got a job as a clerk and appreciated this job for the fact that he could write at night. In his student years, he completed seven voluminous works, but not a single publishing house agreed to take on publication. Therefore, Brandon became a literary volunteer and began a collaboration with BYU magazine.

This helped to get acquainted with modern materials and make acquaintances in the reporting and writing environment. One day, an aspiring author found himself in David Farland's class and was advised to attend World Fantasy and WorldCon. Having fallen into the environment of professional science fiction writers, the young man met like-minded people and got an agent who sold his first novel.

It so happened that the beginning of Sanderson's professional biography was the novel "Elantris", which was the sixth in the chronology of writing. And after positive reviews and a nomination for the John W. Campbell Prize, the publisher bought the Original Trilogy cycle and released Ashes and Steel, Fountainhead of Ascension and Hero of the Ages.

These works were the beginning of the Mist Born series and told about the world of Skadrial, where ash constantly falls from the sky and supernatural smog hangs every night. In the center of the plot was magic, which was obtained from metal, the heroes - nobles, rulers and a thief.
