Biography
After studying at Bowdoin College, Brad Anderson, whose interest in cinema dates back to his childhood and his "first works" in Super-8, went into exile for a year in London to follow the teachings of London's International Film School.
Back in the United States, more precisely in Boston, he worked on documentaries for PBS, and founded with some local directors the Boston Film Collective. He then directed a medium-length film in tribute to Ed Wood (Frankenstein's Planet of Monsters!), Then directed his first feature, The Darien Gap, which he co-produced, edited and wrote for a tiny budget. The film was noticed at the Sundance Festival in 1996 and distributed by Northern Arts.
For his second film, Et plus si affinités, he directed Philip Seymour Hoffman, and won the grand prize and the audience prize at the Deauville festival. After having approached the romantic comedy (Happy accidents) and the horrific thriller (Session 9), in 2004 he directed The Machinist, immersed in the psychological meanders of an insomniac and paranoid worker, played by Christian Bale.
After this masterpiece, if we except the little-known Transsiberian (2008) and The Empire of Shadows (2010), Brad Anderson focuses on television. He thus directed a large number of episodes of series as different as Masters of Horror, Surface, Undercover, Boardwalk Empire, Person of Interest or Alcatraz. He is particularly involved in Fringe, for which he directs no less than 12 episodes.
It was not until 2013 that Brad Anderson returned to the movies, with a thriller called The Call and led by a Halle Berry camping a 911 operator determined to save a teenage girl kidnapped by a serial killer.
