Biography
"Blackmore's Night" is a popular American-British band, which originates from the former guitarist of the cult English rock band "Deep Purple" Richie Blackmore and American vocalist Candice Israel (creative pseudonym Knight). The band took "in service" musical genres of rock, folk and neo-renaissance, having managed to create original compositions. The highlight of "Blackmore's Night" is the motifs of the Renaissance, the music of which Blackmore and Knight took as the basis.

History of creation and composition
Musician Richie Blackmore, who was playing for Deep Pearl at the time, and radio host Candice Knight met in 1989. One of the rock radio stations initiated a PR campaign - a football match between its employees and British musicians-rockers.

The DJs lost, and the master of "Deep Purple" Blackmore, who demonstrated a bright game on the field, was approached by a radio host. Candice asked for an autograph. The short communication prompted the rocker and the aspiring singer to continue the conversation in an informal setting, which they did by moving to the night bar. After talking until the morning, the couple secluded in the room looking gloomy and short-spoken guitarist. The 26-year age difference didn't prevent mutual understanding and love.
At first, Blackmore arranged the singer in "Deep Pearl" as a backing vocalist, but soon the musician with Candice leaves the band and in 1994 restores the old project - the group "Rainbow", founded in the mid-1970s. She works as a backing vocalist and songwriter. The band recorded one album, but in 1997 Blackmore shocked fans with the news of the dissolution of "Rainbow" and the creation of a new band, whose repertoire will be acoustic music with "renaissance" sound.

The novel by Ritchie and Candice was an excellent basis for joint creativity and the starting point of the history of the creation of the collective, the name of which the lovers made up of two names. Surprise and skeptical remarks about the union of rocker and blonde gave way to admiration: the girl, in addition to pleasant appearance, found excellent vocals.
And the soloist of the new band played on ancient instruments and composed poems to musical ballads. The unifying motive for Blackmore and Knight was the love of Renaissance culture.
#flashbackfriday
In "Blackmore's Night" Candice was cast as the main vocalist, and Richie, as it should be in the Middle Ages, turned into a minstrel, leaving for a time electric guitar. Blackmore's instruments are acoustic guitar, lute and mandola. The musicians settled in the town of Port Jefferson, which took refuge on Long Island in the southern state of New York. The responsibilities of the band's manager were assumed by the singer's mother.
The new project seemed risky to many American labels. The managers of Japenese Label BMC were the first to believe in him. It was at their request in the name of the group got the surname Blackmore, known to all music lovers and rock fans.
In addition to the two members of the band, it includes musicians Sir Robert Normand, Bard David and Squire Malcolm. The head and core of "Blackmore's Night" remains Richie Blackmore, and the voice and soul - Candice Knight. Blackmore's fatigue from heavy rock led to the realization of a long-held dream of performing ancient music from the 15th and 16th centuries.
fact
Music
Blackmore jokes that the loudest band has been replaced by the quietest. Candice later shared with reporters that Renaissance music was loved by Richie. He played it in his old Tudor-era mansion that took refuge in the woods of Connecticut.
The lovers lived here for a while, and the future vocalist of "Blackmores Knight" watched through the window glass behind the deer on the lawn and falling snow. The music seemed to her a soundtrack to the landscape outside the window. "Family" project with its measured romantic ballads quickly won the audience and gained a considerable army of fans.
The band's first album was called "Shadow of the Moon" and consisted of melodic and quiet compositions, and the musical accompaniment of almost no percussion. Recording of songs for the album took place in a medieval German castle, which was necessary for immersion in the desired atmosphere. Dim tapestries, stone walls and burning torches created the entourage necessary for inspiration and creativity.
The album includes "Ocean Gypsy" and "Wish you were her" hits. The new sound - more energetic - received the old ballad "Greensleeves". The music video appeared on "No Second Chance." Musicians and music critics praised the collection and agreed that Blackmore's risk was justified. The greatest success of the debut album was in the Land of the Rising Sun and Germany.
However, among the former fans of the guitarist, who liked his hard-rock work, there were also critics. They were not satisfied with the too slow, relaxed sound of Blackmore's new compositions. Two years later, in 1999, the band gave fans a second album called "Under a Violet Moon". Knight called his title song "Gypsy": if you listen, the incendiary motif sounds in Richie Blackmore's solo.
Performers toured with concerts in America and Europe, collecting full halls. The new collection differed from the first presence of more "groovy" songs: so "Blackmores Knight" reacted to the laments of fans who spoke about some "boring" of the previous disc.
In 2001 and 2003, the discography of the musicians was supplemented by two albums: "Fires At Midnight" and "Ghost of a Rose". The latter included the wonderful composition "Loreley", inspired by the legend of the picturesque rock on the banks of the Rhine. Musicians call the albums the best of the band's creations, and critics joke that Blackmore released them, missing hard rock. And the truth: included in the compilation ballads are accompanied by music on electric guitar.
In 2006, the band delighted fans with two studio albums, but the greatest success was "Winter Carols", in which Blackmore and Knight included their favorite Christmas songs. In England, the compilation appeared in October, and in early November it was heard by American fans. The album stayed on the Billboard charts for several months.
"Blackmore's Night" is not striking fruitful: the musicians work on the new album for 2 or even 3 years. From 2008 to 2015, they released four compilations of songs. The last , "All Our Yesterdays" - dates from 2015 and consists of 12 songs.
The band first visited Russia, where it has a multi-thousand army of fans, in 2002. The country inspired the musicians so much that the songs "Toast To Tomorrow" and "Troika" appeared in their repertoire. The first composition is a rehash of the Russian folk "Do I have a guilty..." During the concert "Blackmores Knight" in St. Petersburg, the band pleased the grateful audience "Kalinka-raspberry".
In an interview with Russian journalists, Candice Knight admitted that she felt a genetic connection to the country. After all, her ancestors were Jewish emigrants who left the Russian Empire during the revolution. And Richie Blackmore joked that in his past life he was a Russian robber, so "Kalinka-raspberry" in his performance turned out to be so incendiary.
The musicians also answered questions about their personal lives. Richie and Candice married in the fall of 2008, and in the spring of 2010 they had a baby girl.

"Blackmore's Night" now
Blackmore's Night is a colourful and fascinating show. The members of the group are dressed in costumes stylized as Renaissance clothes. Wooden wind instruments, violin, tamburin, percussion and acoustic guitar create a unique atmosphere, transferring listeners to another age.
Elements of hard rock, electric guitar and keyboards return to our time. During the concert, soloists communicate with the audience, improvise, creating a sense of chamber, family atmosphere.
The group has a Facebook account where followers follow the news in Blackmore's Night. Musicians do not disappoint fans, regularly posting on the page fresh photos and reporting on the concert schedules. Now the rock-folk band is actively touring Europe. In June and July 2019, Blackmores Knight concerts take place in Berlin, Magdeburg, Dresden and Abenberg.
