Biography

Charismatic beauty Beth Hart made her music debut in 1999 when her single "LA Song (Out of This Town)" hit # 1 in New Zealand and entered the top 10 in the United States. The jazz singer, who has written songs for 10 studio albums, unleashed her talent in collaboration with guitarist Joe Bonamassa and became a 2014 Grammy nominee and winner in several categories at the Blues Blast and Blues Music Awards.

Childhood and youth

Beth Hart was born in Los Angeles on January 24, 1972 and was such a musical child that at the age of 4, her parents decided to organize piano lessons for her daughter with a private teacher. Starting with the classics of Bach, Beethoven and Rachmaninoff, the girl soon switched to modern compositions and picked up by ear the immortal hits of Etta James, Otis Redding and Led Zeppelin.

Later, Beth recalled that her mother, who loved to relax to the music of Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday, introduced her to the work of jazz performers. And the love of aggressive rock came from her father, who left the family when the future singer was a teenager. Having survived the separation of her parents and miraculously resisted the bad influence of the company, Beth graduated from high school and entered the Academy of Arts in Los Angeles for a course in vocal and cello.

While her own sister began to use drugs, the future singer became addicted to creativity. First it was clubs with open microphones and talent shows, and then performances in Hollywood nightlife and attending concerts of world celebrities. As a result, Beth was unable to combine her studies with nightlife and gave up higher education, being expelled for systematic absenteeism.

This situation did not upset the aspiring singer, who in 1993 formed a group called Beth Hart and the Ocean of Souls and won the "Star Search" vocal competition, receiving a prize of $ 100,000. With the money she won, Beth bought an apartment and felt like a star. Unfortunately, she was unable to resist the negative sides of the glamorous life, and the rest of the fee went to alcohol and drugs.

Continuing to play in clubs, the Hart team dreamed of stadiums, and soon the consciousness distorted by drugs led the musicians to the streets of Santa Monica, where they performed in the hope of being noticed by some of the famous producers.

Music

In the mid-1990s, the biography of Hart and her team changed dramatically thanks to their acquaintance with showman David Wolf and composer David Foster. These people became the singer's producers and helped to sign a contract with Atlantic Records to record the album "Immortal".

The record quickly gained popularity and opened the way for the band to the stage. Thanks to her, Beth Hart and the Ocean of Souls went on tour with the legendary Scorpions, but could not stand the busy schedule and broke up a few months later due to scandals and internal contradictions.

Beth had a hard time parting with her partners and was depressed until she got the chance to release the single "LA Song (Out Of This Town)" and play the role of Janice Joplin in the Broadway musical "Love, Janis".

From that moment on, the singer's career took off. In 2003, Hart entered Koch Records and recorded a solo album "Leave the Light On", which became a breakthrough in the European music market. Having received a platinum certificate, Beth won recognition and became the first and only performer to record the vocal part in the composition of the great Deep Purples "Haunted".

In 2005, Hart collaborated with the Toots Thielmans and released CDs and DVDs of her own concerts. And 2 years later, she presented to the world her studio album “37 Days”, which consisted of original songs and demonstrated a new round in the artist's work, free from depression and drug addiction.

Having become popular and in demand, Beth began to appear regularly in the projects of famous musicians. In 2006, the singer toured with British virtuoso Jeff Beck, and in 2010 she was heard on the iTunes version of Slash's solo album "Mother Maria" and on Buddy Guy's song "What You Gonna do About Me".

In 2011, Hart, who had 4 albums in her creative assets, received an invitation to participate in the recording of the record of the famous bluesman Joe Bonamassa. Through her equal contribution to "Don't Explain," Beth has chosen and performed covers of her favorite songs by Etta James, Bonnie Bramlett and Aretha Franklin.

The collaboration continued in 2013, after Hart recorded the song "Caught Out in the Rain", which was featured on the CD's track listing "Bang Bang Boom Boom Boom". The new joint project was the album "Seesaw", thanks to which Beth and Joe received a Grammy nomination and were recognized as one of the best contemporary blues performers at the Blues Music Award ceremony.

After that Bonamassa and Hart went on a mini-tour of Europe and gave 2 concerts at the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam. These performances became the basis for numerous video clips with the duo's participation and in 2014 were released in full on DVD and CD.

At the end of the tour, the singer began work on her 7th studio album and on April 13, 2015, she presented the world "Better Than Home", produced by Michael Stevens, dying of cancer. Hart was very worried about her colleague and had to work quickly. As a result, the recording was completed in 5 days, but, despite this, the disc hit the top in European charts and topped the Billboard and iTunes Blues charts.

Not stopping at what has been achieved, Beth collected material for the new disc "Fire on the Floor" for a year, which was released on October 14, 2016 in Europe and on February 3, 2017 in the USA, and then in 2018 took part in the recording of the album " Black Coffee ”, which became the third joint project of the singer with guitarist Joe Bonamassa.

Personal life

A difficult childhood and an unstable family environment left an imprint on Beth's personal life and character. Since childhood, suffering from bipolar disorder, the girl aggravated the disease with drugs and alcohol. It was in this state that Hart met her future husband Scott Goetzkau, who worked as a road manager in the singer's tour team.

The young man immediately felt sympathy for a fragile girl with a vulnerable soul and, according to rumors, made her an offer in a drug treatment clinic where Beth was undergoing a rehabilitation course. Thus, Scott saved the star from suicide and, with the help of producer and friend David Wolf, continues to keep Beth in remission.

After the wedding, the couple did not have children due to the busy work schedule and the precarious health of the singer. Now the couple live in Los Angeles and occasionally share private life events with fans, posting joint photos and videos on their official Instagram pages.
