Arsen Avakov

Arsen Borisovich Avakov is a Ukrainian businessman, banker, politician, statesman, since 2014 the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Arsen was born on January 2, 1964 in the Kirov village of the capital of Azerbaijan in the family of Boris Surenovich and Tatyana Matveyevna Avakov. The parents were Armenian by nationality, the real name of Boris Surenovich was Avakyan. His father served as a military pilot, in 1966 he was transferred to Kharkov.

In 1981, Arsen graduated from the Kharkov school, then entered the KhPU, where he received the qualification of a system engineer with a degree in Automated Control Systems. After the third year of university, Avakov annually went to work in the Tyumen region as the commander of the construction department No. 18 of the Novourengoygazstroy trust and the BMP-522 PSMO Tyumendorstroy of the Urengoytransstroy trust.

In the fifth year, he got a job as an engineer at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute for Water Protection in Kharkov, where he worked for three years until 1990. Avakov's field of activity included the study of issues of mathematical modeling.

In 1990 Avakov became the head of the first Ukrainian JSC "Investor" founded by him. Arsen Borisovich held the post of president of the enterprise until 2005. With the support of the governor of the Kharkiv region Yevgeny Kushnarev, Arsen Avakov on the basis of the Investor financial industrial group launched Bazis in 1992. Returning to his homeland in 2012, Arsen Avakov took the deputy post from the Batkivshchyna bloc in the Verkhovna Rada of the VII convocation. During the political crisis at the end of 2013, he was engaged in the arrangement of a tent camp on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. After bloody events and a coup d'etat at the end of February 2014, he was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs in the government apparatus of Arseniy Yatsenyuk, replacing his predecessor Vitaly Zakharchenko.

At the new post, Avakov changed personnel, disbanded the Berkut division. In March, he oversaw the operation to eliminate Alexander Muzychko, for which he blamed the Russian special services. In the summer of 2014, he left the Batkivshchyna party together with Alexander Turchinov, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Sergey Pashinsky, Andrey Parubiy, Pavel Petrenko. At the end of 2014, he was accused of conducting financial fraud in the procurement of military equipment for the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In the spring of 2016, after the start of the new government headed by Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman, Avakov was among the few to retain his post in the new Cabinet.
