The fact is that Nogueiro was hit by a truck, he was in a coma for 4 days and miraculously survived. Despite his health problems, after rehabilitating from an illness, Antonio again took up judo, and at the age of 14, together with his best friend, he enrolled in the boxing section. Before participating in MMA fights at a professional level, the man more than once became a prize-winner of major international mixed martial arts competitions. And at 23, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira made his debut at the World Extreme Fighting 6 tournament against David Dodd and defeated his opponent in the 1st round.

Having spent several more similar fights, the athlete went to Japan to participate in the RINGS promotion's King of Kings 1999. There he had a fight with the Dutchman Valentin Overem and the Russian Yuri Kochkin, both fights ended well for the Brazilian.

The next fight with Andrei Kopylov also showed the audience the experience and strength of Nogueira, since by a majority decision, Antonio was then awarded the victory. At these competitions, the man managed to overcome three more rivals - Wolf Khan, Hiromitsu Kanehara and Valentin Overem. Antoniu had already met the latter in the ring a year before. This victory allowed the man to become the champion of the RINGS promotion's King of Kings.

After the closure of the RINGS Federation, Nogueira begins performing under the auspices of the PRIDE promotion. His debut took place in the summer of 2001. For 2 years (2001-2002), the man did not suffer a single defeat. The audience remembered his impressive fights with Canadian Gary Goodridge, Americans Mark Coleman, Heath Herring and Bob Sapp, as well as Dutch Sammy Schilt and Japanese Sanae Kikuta. Nogueira was a strong contender for many fighters and after receiving the status of PRIDE heavyweight champion in 2001, defended his championship for 2 years.

The Brazilian lost his title in 2003 at the PRIDE 25 Body Blow in Japan. On March 16, he met in the octagon with the Russian fighter Fedor Emelianenko. And in the February 2010 fight, Nogueira was again unlucky. On the 2nd minute of the 1st round, the American Kane Velasquez struck the opponent with blows.
