Biography

Anton Shipulin is a Russian biathlete. He won a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and a bronze medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Honored Master of Sports of Russia. In May 2018, he took 1st place among athletes of the Russian Biathlon Union and 3rd place in the World Cup.

Anton Shipulin hails from the Siberian city of Tyumen. The athlete was born on August 21, 1987 in a family of professional skiers and biathletes. This is partly why from the very birth the child's fate was a foregone conclusion - he was destined to become an athlete.

From the age of 3-4, the future biathlon star (and both of his sisters Anna and Anastasia, and Anya is Anton's twin sister) worked hard to ski under the strict guidance of the father of the family, Vladimir Ivanovich, who also took him with him to the training camp. Anton's mother, Alla Abushaevna, was also related to this sport. It is noteworthy that the biathlete's parents were masters of sports in cross-country skiing and biathlon.

During the perestroika period, parents had to change their occupation, which was not at all connected with sports. The place of the coach for the athlete was taken by a friend of his mother, with whom Shipulin trained until the age of 14. During this period, sister Nastya became interested in biathlon. One day after training, she brought home a rifle, at the sight of which Anton's interest in weapons arose. After persuasion, my sister still let me touch the rifle. The next day, the athlete firmly decided that he would only do biathlon.

Since then, the biography of Anton Shipulin has been closely associated with biathlon. And in 2010 Anton decided to get higher education. This is how the Ural Federal University appeared in Shipulin's life, where the athlete studied at the magistracy of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy.

Sport

In 2002, Shipulin came under the guidance of an experienced mentor Mikhail Novikov, who was collaborating at that time with Svetlana Sleptsova, and began training in Khanty-Mansiysk. This event became defining in the life of an athlete.

In 2004, the guy graduated from the 11th grade of the Tyumen secondary school, after which, obeying the wishes of his parents, and also being guided by the example of his older sister Nastya (who, by the way, became the Vancouver Olympic champion in biathlon from Slovakia), he entered the Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Tyumen.

Studying at the university was not the easiest time in the life of an athlete. The fact that, in addition to studying, the student is seriously engaged in biathlon, did not contribute in any way to the loyalty of the teachers, who demanded knowledge, not awards. Therefore, he had to rewrite notes and lectures all night long, cram the norms of law, and train during the day until exhaustion. But later, the athlete did not regret that he had to learn so much information.

During his studies at the university, Anton participated in junior competitions from Khanty-Mansiysk, where he was noticed in 2006 by coach Vladimir Putrov. At the invitation of the eminent specialist, the athlete moved to Yekaterinburg, where he still lives. Since then, the sports biography of Anton Shipulin entered a new round. 2006 brought the athlete the first serious success in his sports career - at the World Championships Anton Shipulin won gold in the relay.

The following year brought the Russian biathlete a whole piggy bank of awards, including bronze in pursuit, sprint silver and relay gold. Biathlete Anton Shipulin has seriously declared himself in big sports. Since 2008, the athlete has been a member of the Russian national team, of which he is still a member. At the World Championships, Anton showed excellent results, winning stages in sprint and pursuit. The relay also brought first place. That year gave Shipulin the championship in Europe.

Performance at the 2009 World Championships did not show such results as it did before. The young biathlete took only 72nd place in the sprint, but there were logical explanations for this - the training camp in the national team postponed its mark, the athlete simply did not have time to recover by the beginning of the competition.

The 2010 pre-Olympic season showed that Anton is confident in his abilities: according to the results of the season, he was officially recognized as the best shooter among biathletes in the world, which allowed him to take a leading position in the national team.

The athlete's previous merits allowed him to participate on behalf of Russia at the Vancouver Olympics, where he failed to prove himself to the fullest, the lack of experience in performing at competitions of this level on a par with eminent athletes, and Shipulin himself does not deny this. The result of the competition was a bronze medal for the relay of the men's team (by the way, Anton spent his stage brilliantly, not allowing a single miss at the shooting range), and later the biathlete was awarded the Medal of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland from the President of the Russian Federation.

In the seasons of 2011-2013, at the World Cup stages, the athlete again began to show stable results both in shooting and skiing. The result of hard training was the first, second and third places in the competition. Accurate shooting has become a hallmark of the athlete.

The main event in the life of an athlete is the Olympics. Anton Vladimirovich Shipulin is one of the leaders of the Russian men's biathlon team. They pinned great hopes on him, because the pre-Olympic season brought him many successes and awards. According to Anton, the biathlon track in Sochi is very tricky.

For many days, Russian biathletes did not manage to get to the podium at the Sochi Olympics. Everything changed on February 22, 2014, on the last competitive day of biathlon. The men's team won gold in the relay. Alexey Volkov, Dmitry Malyshko, Evgeny Ustyugov and Anton Shipulin took part in the last race of biathletes. Thanks to the genius fourth stage of Shipulin, the guys got the long-awaited victory, because Russia did not win the men's relay for 34 years.

This year was significant in Shipulin's career - he became the Olympic champion in the relay. For these and other sporting achievements, Anton was awarded the Order of Friendship, which was personally presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Russian athlete also showed good results at the 2016 World Cup. Despite the setbacks in Östersund, at the second stage in Pokljuka, Shipulin rehabilitated himself, winning twice bronze in individual races and pulling the team to silver in the relay. The third stage delighted the fans - the biathlete came second in the Czech town of Nove Mesto, behind only Martin Fourcade.

In the 2016-2017 season, he showed himself excellently at the World Cup stage in Antholz. Anton won gold in the individual race and also became the first in Holmenkollen in the pursuit.

Personal life

The personal life of Anton Shipulin has long been a secret, covered in darkness. The athlete does not like to talk about it and tries not to let journalists into their personal space. In an interview, he said more than once that sport is paramount for him in life.

Only once did a biathlete admit that he has a soul mate with whom they live together. Later, the media found out the name of Anton's chosen one, she was a native of Tyumen, Luiza Sabitova. On May 8, 2015 Shipulin, right in the cinema, according to the press, made a marriage proposal to Louise. Already in the summer of 2015, the couple played a wedding on the shore of Lake Shartash, and in December, Anton Shipulin's wife gave the famous athlete a son.

On February 7, 2019 Anton became a father for the second time. Louise gave her husband a daughter, Mira. The girl was born with a weight of 3634 grams, a height of 55 cm. Happy parents hid the second pregnancy from everyone until the very end.

Anton Shipulin finds time for communication with friends and for a hobby - he is fond of paintball and karting.

Anton is also the founder and head of a charitable foundation. The organization supports young athletes and children from orphanages, initiates the construction of sports facilities. More information about the fund's programs can be found on the biathlete's official website.

fact

Anton Shipulin now

In January 2018, on the eve of the Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not allow Anton Shipulin to participate in the Games in Pyeongchang. At the same time, the representative of the organization did not answer the question whether the biathlete was involved in a doping scandal. Thus, the biathlete was unable to participate in the Olympics either under a neutral flag or in principle.

For some time, Shipulin did not comment on the situation. But a little later I decided to share my own opinion on Instagram. The athlete wrote that he is shocked and upset, and wants to give up everything and go home. But on the other hand, he sees how many people support him and understands that this is not a reason to give up.

Anton Shipulin was Russia's main hope in biathlon at the Pyeongchang Olympics. His absence from the games automatically deprived the team of the chance to start in the relay races.

Of course, the non-admission to the Olympics did its job. In March 2018, information appeared on the Web that Anton was going to leave the sport. The reason for the decision is lack of motivation. But in April, a special report about Anton Shipulin was shown on the air of the Match TV channel, where he personally spoke about his future plans. He admitted that a year ago he had an agreement with the doctors that after the Olympic season he needed to rest for at least six months. Shipulin cannot continue to train at this pace for health reasons. He did not talk about his illness, but added that he would make a decision to continue or end his career in the fall.

The very next day after the release of the report, it became known that Shipulin was sick with mononucleosis. This infectious disease is often found in athletes and has unpleasant consequences - it affects the internal organs and leads to a change in the composition of the blood. The virus, once settling in the body, remains there forever.

The coach of the Russian biathlete Andrei Kryuchkov said that mononucleosis itself is dangerous only during the acute phase, and at this time they stopped training. There was no talk of a complete rejection of training, and there were no medical prohibitions on this. The coach himself believes that mononucleosis is not a reason for abandoning a sports career.

The athlete gave the floor to the fans to inform about his decision before the start of the season. Back in September 2018, Shipulin admitted that the last season was the worst of his career. Failures at the stages, state of health, non-admission to the Olympics unsettled him.

In October, Anton kept his promise and announced the decision to the delight of the fans:

Fans were happy to receive the news, but the second stage of the 2018/2019 World Cup has become a new barrier in the athlete's career. In Hochfilzen, Austria, police raided the Russian team in the middle of the night, accusing several athletes, massage therapists and coaches of using doping, which is considered a criminal offense in Austria. Anton Shipulin was also on the list of suspects.

On December 18, after a trial involving the RBU, the Austrians were forced to drop the charges due to lack of evidence. According to Shipulin, amid heart problems and endless unsubstantiated accusations, this was the last straw.

On December 25, during a press conference, Anton Shipulin announced his retirement. His last official start was the Christmas Race on December 29 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
