Annie Cordy, whose real name is Léonie Cooreman, began dancing at the age of eight and took music theory and piano lessons. Very quickly, she took part in radio hooks, competitions and made her debut at the "Boeuf sur le toit" cabaret in Brussels. She was then noticed by the artistic director of the Lido , and was hired in 1950 as a magazine leader. In 1952, she signed a contract with Pathé Marconi , and won the "Maurice Chevallier" prize in Deauville. While continuing the operetta, Annie Cordy records her first musical successes ( Fleur de papillon, Léon , ...).

She made her debut as an actress in 1953, with the comedy by Sacha Guitry, Si Versailles m'être conté ..., then turned alongside Bourvil in 1954 in Poisson d'avril. His career on the big screen is then launched. But Annie Cordy does not forget her first love: the song, since she starred in 1955 at the Olympia and received the Grand Prix of the Charles Cros Academy for the song Oh Bessie!. Throughout her career this complete artist alternates cinema, song and scenes (Operetta, theater, ..). She also perfectly combines cinema and song since she plays in many musicals including Le Chanteur de Mexico alongside Luis Mariano and Bourvil. But far from being satisfied with being present on all fronts, Annie Cordy went international, since in 1956, she performed in Germany, England, New York, Rio de Janeiro, then in Cuba, Mexico, and Porto Rico.

At the end of the fifties, Annie Cordy made a series of operettas and films with Tabarin by Richard Pottier (1958), Cigarettes, whiskey et petits pépées by Maurice Regamey (1959), Ces dames d'en mingle, in 1964, marks the beginning of his collaboration with director Raoul André. With René Clément's The Passenger of the Rain, Annie Cordy shows that the one nicknamed the "funny girl" knows how to move. What she confirms moreover in Le Chat alongside Jean Gabin and Simone Signoret or in Rue haute, directed by André Ernotte in 1976, for which she won the Award for best actress. Annie Cordy is illustrated as well in musicals as in dramas.

However, this great lady of the music hall does not abandon the song sincewhich sold 1,800,000 copies, and Tata Yoyo sold 1 million copies. With 6000 galas to his credit, more than 600 recorded songs, 2 dubbed cartoons (Pocahontas, an Indian legend and Brother of the Bears), 40 cinema films, not to mention television series (Summer Storms, Avis de Tempête, Le Tutor, ...) and TV movies (L'Avare, Madame Sans-Gêne, ...) in which she appears, Annie Cordy is a complete artist who has evolved with her time. In 1998, she celebrated her 50 year career and continues to amaze us with her dynamism and enthusiasm. In 2006, she starred in Richard Bohringer's film, C'est beau une ville la nuit, and the following year, in Laurent Achard's film, The Last of the Fools.

At the age of 80, Annie Cordy continued her career in cinema and television, with appearances in numerous films (Crime is our business, Disco, The Last Diamond) and TV films (I return to my mother). In 2014, she starred in Les Souvenirs, Jean-Paul Rouve's third feature film. The actress plays there the touching grandmother of Romain, who, tired of having everything decided for her, escapes from her retirement home.
