Anna Boden

Anna Boden met Ryan Fleck while filming a student film in 2002, while they were both studying film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. The two budding directors quickly go out together and decide to collaborate.

The couple first made short documentaries ( Have You Seen This Man ? ,  Young Rebels ) before trying their hand at fiction with  Gowanus, Brooklyn . The film is above all a means of attracting potential investors to a larger project: Half Nelson, which was only at the stage of a developing screenplay. A strategy that is paying off, since the short won an award at the Sundance Festival in 2004. The duo can therefore focus on their first feature which came out in 2006, with in the lead role a young Ryan Gosling touching as a brilliant teacher but lost in a high school in Brooklyn. The actor was even nominated for an Oscar in 2007.

The duo established themselves in the independent world and in 2008 got down to directing Sugar, a drama about Dominican baseball star Miguel Santos, presented for a world premiere at Sundance but never before seen in France. This is their first performance as a duo,  Half Nelson having staged by Ryan Fleck only. In 2010, they direct Zach Galifianakis, Emma Roberts and Viola Davis in A Funny Story, a comedy kidnapped about patients in a mental hospital. At the same time, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck infiltrated television by directing a few episodes of several critically acclaimed series (The Big C, Looking, The Affair, Billions). For Under Pressure, their third collaboration, the directors are once again surrounded by a cast of choice: Ryan Reynolds, Ben Mendelsohn, Sienna Miller and Analeigh Tipton thus find themselves in a thriller under high tension and with more assertive ambitions.

In April 2017, Marvel announced that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will be the two directors of the highly anticipated Captain Marvel, with Brie Larson as the superhero making her first appearance on the big screen.
