Angus Young

Legendary lead guitarist, songwriter and the only regular member of the Australian group AC / DC, Angus Young is ranked 24th on Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Musicians of All History. He is distinguished from many others not only by his unsurpassed skill, but also by the ability to keep himself on stage: Young gives concerts exclusively in school uniform, and Chuck Berry's “duck walking” has become his own “trick”.

Angus McKinnon Young was born on March 31, 1955 in the largest Scottish city of Glasgow. In 1963, the country was covered with the most severe winter in history - the thickness of the snow cover reached 2.44 m. The then advertised resettlement program to Australia seduced the parents of Angus, William and Margaret, who were not used to severe frosts. In late June of the same year, adults and six children boarded a plane to Canberra.

Together with Angus, his brothers George (1946–2017), Malcolm (1953–2017), Stephen (1933–1989), William Jr. (born 1940) and his only sister Margaret (born in 1935) moved to Australia. ... Angus's musical education began with a six-string banjo. Then there was the second hand acoustic guitar, followed in 1970 by the Gibson SG. This instrument was also bought from hands, but Young did not give up on it until the deck rotted from sweat and water. Prior to AC / DC, Angus played in the Marcus Hook Roll Band and Kantuckee.

AC / DC came into existence in 1973 when Angus turned 18. He took on the role of lead guitarist, Malcolm as rhythm guitarist. Colin Burgess sat on drums, Larry Van Creedt on bass. Dave Evans became the "voice" of the group.

Young tried a few stage costumes before donning the legendary school uniform: Spider-Man, Zorro, Gorilla, a parody of Superman named Super Young. To match the chosen image, AC / DC gave information to the press that Angus was not 18, but 14 years old.

The first school uniform for the musician was created by his sister Margaret. When it was worn out, Angus put on the Ashfield Boys suit. He sat perfectly, because since then Young has not grown much. Now his height is 157 cm.

In 1975, AC / DC released their debut album, High Voltage, taking pride of place on the hardcore Olympus. The studio album "Highway to Hell" (1979) became a bestseller and took AC / DC to new heights, and "Back in Black" (1980) is considered perhaps the best disc of the group. It took the 2nd place in the list of the best-selling records, behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller": circulation exceeds 50 million copies. Most of the songs are written by Angus Young.

In April 2014, Malcolm Young left AC / DC due to poor health, leaving Angus as the last permanent member of the group. Now drummer Chris Slade, Stevie Young, son of Angus's older brother Stephen, and Axl Rose, frontman of Guns N 'Roses, are helping him to make high-quality hardcore.

Angus and his wife Helene (nee Van Lohern) own homes in Australia, the UK and the Netherlands, where the woman is from. The couple's personal life acquired official status in February 1980, since then the couple have lived in perfect harmony. They have no children.
