The young man ended up in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, where he guarded a prison as part of the internal troops. The service left vivid impressions, Tikhonov admitted that he went through an excellent school of life, which later helped in building a sports career.

Who knows how the biography would have developed if the future star of the game on the grass had not had sagacious friends and wife. After demobilization, they persuaded to return to football, because Andrei did not even think about the fate of the athlete - he planned to get a job as a loader. The young man was warmly welcomed by Vympel, and then by the Titan club.

In 1992, a fateful event took place. During the battle between "Titan" and "Spartak" the capable player was noticed by the head coach of the "red-white" Oleg Romantsev and personally invited him under his wing. He made the right decision - in the first season, the newcomer, as the second division scorer, hit the opponents' goal with 22 goals in 23 matches.

Feats on account of Tikhonov, a trouble-free and nimble player, are enough. The most striking act for which the team and the management dubbed Andrey a hero happened at the match for the UEFA Cup (1996). During the match between Spartak and Silkeborg, Ruslan Nigmatullin was sent off from the field, and there was no replacement left. Then Andrey stood up to defend the gate, taking a dangerous free-kick at the end of the fight. "Spartak" then won with a score of 3: 2, and Tikhonov scored two goals.

For eight years Andrei Tikhonov played for Spartak.
