Russian skier Andrey Larkov impressed the sports world with his hard work, ingenuity and perseverance at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, which took place in February 2018. Andrey Larkov was born on November 25, 1989 in the city of Zelenodolsk (Republic of Tatarstan). I got up on skis quite late - at the age of 14 I entered the children's and youth sports school №4. Gennady Rozhkov and Vladimir Makhalov became the coaches of the future Olympic medalist.

The talent of the young athlete did not go unnoticed, Andrei entered the Volga State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism at the invitation of the head coach of the ski team of this educational institution Leonid Savosin. Larkov managed to study, build a sports career and serve in the police with the rank of junior lieutenant. The young man joined the ranks of the law enforcement officer as an inspector of the police patrol service at the Russian MIA Administration for the Nizhnekamsk District of the Republic of Tatarstan.

When the young man was in the 10th grade, Leonid Savosin began to attract him to the junior national team of Tatarstan. According to the coach, difficult times reigned for Russian sports, funds for full-fledged training were sorely lacking, they had to collect a thread from the world. 

The capable Larkov was noticed by Marat Bariev, the Minister of Sports of the Republic and a former skier, and began to help on the way to success. In addition, Andrei was in good standing with the city sports committee and the Neftekhimik sports club. Thanks to such powerful support, the young man finally made a breakthrough in his career.

The first serious competition, where Andrey Larkov performed, was the Eastern Europe Cup in 2008, but, alas, then he did not manage to rise above the 45th place. However, a year later, the athlete managed to take only 5, 7 and 14 places in the Russian championship among youth. But in 2010, the long-awaited medal, albeit made of bronze, was won by Andrei after the skiathlon competition in Syktyvkar.

The debut at the World Cup in cross-country skiing took place in 2011 in Rybinsk, where the athlete came in seventh in the relay. But on the other hand, this result allowed the young man to participate in the World Youth Championship in Otepe (Estonia) and show excellent results in skiathlon.

They started talking about the skier in full voice in 2015, when Andrei Larkov took three gold medals at the Winter Universiade held in Slovakia. The man showed his abilities in the freestyle sprint race, the 30 km race and as part of the relay team. Then Andrey was noted with gratitude from the President of the Russian Federation.

Soon, a sports biography was adorned with another silver medal, snatched by the Russian team from rivals at the World Championship in Finland, which was held in 2017, as well as gold at the Russian Championship. Andrei Larkov's mother, Svetlana Gennadievna, did not watch the broadcast of the Games - she was worried, and even at that time she was working. The father of the Olympic medalist watched the success of his son, immediately congratulating his wife on the phone. Svetlana Larkova, in an interview with the local press, said that her husband and she hoped for such a result and were sure that in these Olympic Games their son would take a personal medal. The only thing that was not expected was two victories.

Any attempts of journalists to find out about the skier's personal life fail - the modest Larkov opened a little after the "silver" relay in 2017, but then went into the shadows again. In an interview, Andrei is laconic and ignores issues of relationships with the opposite sex. 

Fans joke that at the age of 28 it would be time to think about his wife and children, but it seems that the heart of a young and prominent athlete (Andrey is 178 cm tall and weighs 72 kg) is still free. Now at Russian competitions Andrei Larkov represents the Dynamo sports club, still works in the police and continues to hone his skier's skills. After returning home from the Olympic Games, at a meeting with the press and fans at the airport, he said that he would stay seven days a week - he would prepare for the World Cup in Lahti, Finland. However, the young man did not bring victories from the March competition.

In 2018, in addition to his stellar debut at the Games, another important event happened in Larkov's life - Andrey was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of Russia of international class. And at the same time they were awarded a medal of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland, 1st degree.
