Soviet and Russian athlete Andrei Bukin is half of the star duo of ice dancing figure skaters. He and Natalya Bestemyanova were the idols of Soviet youth. The couple repeatedly took the highest places on the podiums at the World, European and USSR Championships. Andrey Anatolyevich Bukin was born on June 10, 1957 in Moscow. The father of the future champion, Anatoly Pavlovich Bukin, fought on the Southwestern Front from the first days of the Second World War, was wounded, awarded the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War of the II degree and the medal "For Courage", taught at the Frunze Military Academy. Mother Alexandra Dmitrievna Bukina worked as a seamstress, but for the sake of raising children she went to housewives.

In 1977, coach Tatyana Anatolyevna Tarasova brought together a star pair of dancers. The duet Bestemyanova - Bukin won their first victory at the "USSR Trade Union Prize" tournament. In 1979, at the World Championships in Vienna, the couple took tenth place, but impressed the judges so much that, contrary to the rules, the newcomers were included in the program of demonstration performances.

In 1982, the stars of figure skating participated in the filming of three documentaries at once: "Dancing on Ice", "Where the Champions Go", "Both Complexity and Beauty ...". After the World Championships in Helsinki, the young athletes toured Europe. At the opening of the Olympics in Calgary, Andrei carried the USSR flag. At the age of 30, at the peak of his fame, Bukin ends a great sports career.

Andrei and Natalya did not just follow the advice of “Tanya's mother,” as their favorite students called Tarasova, they jointly created performance programs. They were based on classical compositions - opera music by Bizet, Rachmaninov and Borodin. The skaters danced to music from Charlie Chaplin's films, performed Tango and Tsyganochka.

Their costumes and make-up were always bright and conspicuous, but they never became vulgar. Photos of the champions hung in every apartment, the inhabitants of which followed the success of Soviet sports. And among especially lucky fans, the photos of idols were decorated with the couple's autographs.

But by June 1980, when the couple legalized their relationship, Olga had already left the big sport. Thanks to the patronage of Tarasova and Kobzon, the newlyweds managed to get a one-room apartment on Zoya and Alexander Kosmodemyanskikh Street, not far from the ice rink.

A two-room apartment at the River Station was given to the Olympic silver medalist only four years later, when a son, Andrei, was already born in the family. The couple broke up when their son was ten years old. It was he who persuaded his father not to officially divorce, so the athlete entered into a second marriage without the blessing of the registry office. But the birth of Elena Vasyukova in 1993, her son Ivan, became a weighty argument in favor of considering her as a second wife.

Elena has also stood firmly on skates since childhood, doing single skating. The busy training schedule seemed to leave the athletes no other time to get to know each other - romances started at the ice stadium and continued outside the rink. A responsible father devoted time to raising both sons, provided both families with housing. Now Andrei is watching with pride and concern the success of Ivan and the vicissitudes of his sports career.
