In the last couple of days before his death, the artist fell into a coma.

On September 30, 2011, Alexey Zavyalov died. Farewell to the actor took place in his native Vakhtangov Theater.

The actor was buried at the Khovanskoye cemetery. After the funeral of the actor, the Vakhtangov Theater, where Alexei Zavyalov worked, continued to pay the actor's salary to Maria Maslova to help the woman raise children who were left without a father after Zavyalov's death.
