The 1991-1992 season Alexey Yashin spent at Dynamo, with the club he became the champion at the CIS championship. And the next year he won the Youth Hockey League championship.

In 1992, the young and promising hockey player in the NHL draft was chosen by the Ottawa Senators. In the summer of 1993, he signed a contract with him for 5 years, and in the end he played in it for eight seasons. Already in the first year, Alexei was recognized as the best player in the club. In 1996, he played for the Moscow club CSKA for some time, because he believed that his current contract in the NHL was unfair. In the 1998-1999 season he was named captain of the Ottawa Senators. Thus, he became the second Russian hockey player to become the captain of the NHL club, and the first on a permanent basis.

Since 2001, Yashin began playing for the American club New York Islanders. And here, too, he was the captain, moreover, for two seasons.
