Son of director Alexandre Arcady and film critic Marie-Jo Jouan.

As a child, Alexandre Aja made several appearances in his father's films under the name of Alexandre Jouan (Le Grand Carnaval, 1983; L'Union sacrée, 1989; Le Grand pardon II, 1992). Then, following in his footsteps, he assists his father in directing Là-bas, mon pays (2000), Entre Chien et Loups (2002) and Marriage Mix (2004). In the meantime, in 1997 he signed a short film, Over the Rainbow, which was presented in the Official Competition at Cannes. A successful trial run which allowed him to shoot Furia two years later, an anticipation film based on a short story by Julio Cortazar. After working on the script for the thrillerBetween dogs and wolves, Alexandre Aja specializes in horror cinema with the efficient Haute tension (2003) led by the "traumatized" Cécile de France.

Yielding to Hollywood sirens, the young Frenchie realizes, in the same vein La Colline a des eyes, a remake of the cult film by Wes Craven. A resounding success that contrasts with the resounding flop of his 2nd basement production ... In 2008, he remained in the horrific field by directing Kiefer Sutherland in Mirrors, telling the story of a former police officer converted into a security guard who works nights in a cursed place ... Two years later, the horror film prodigy sets out to direct Piranha 3D, a remake of Joe Dante's Piranhas, released in 1978.

Always at ease in the horror genre, the director produced in 2012 the remake of William Lustig's film, Maniac, carried by a stunning Elijah Wood in this complex role of a psychopath who scalps his victims. He also writes the screenplay for the film with his partner Grégory Levasseur. Three years after making Piranhas 3D, Aja returns to a field he knows well with Horns, a thriller flirting between drama and horror film, with Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role.
