Alexey Oleinik, known in the world of mixed martial arts as the Boa constrictor, was nicknamed thanks to his signature choke hold. Top rivals who surpassed his experience many times over (Jeff Monson, Mirko Filipovic, Mark Hunt) did not break out of Udav's strong grips. Now Oleinik is three times world champion according to versions of various promoters, a bright representative of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), the best fighter in the ground.

Alexey Alekseevich Oleinik was born on June 20, 1977 in Kharkov. Little is known about the early period of the future champion's biography. The boy's craving for sports manifested itself since childhood: he trained on his own at home with dumbbells, ran, did push-ups and rocked the press. He showed interest in martial arts in order to protect himself in case of trouble and help another:

The boy did not stay in any section - karate, taekwondo, judo. Alexei did not like the approach of the coaches, who scolded and punished if, in the heat of the battle, opponents accidentally hit each other with their elbows or hit too hard. The realization of the future profession came to Boa in his youth, in the 2nd year of the Kharkov University of Internal Affairs. On September 6, 1996, the fighter crossed the threshold of the legendary Minamoto clan - the Japanese Jiu-Jitsu section.

Alexey Oleinik once told the story of the clan in an interview. In the 11th century, the Land of the Rising Sun was ruled by two clans, Taira and Minamoto, and they fought. Despite being outnumbered, Taira was defeated by the Minamoto, and the leader of the victors, Yoritomo Minamoto, became the first military ruler of Japan. He is considered the ancestor of jiu-jitsu. For centuries this martial art has been passed down from sensei to sensei. After 900 years, jiu-jitsu came to Kharkov.

In November 1996, Oleinik took part in the first ever fights without rules and won a landslide victory over three experienced fighters, twice using a rear naked choke.

Sensei of the Kharkov clan Gennadiy Minka saw potential in the young guy and began to prepare him for his debut international battle - IAFC (Absolute Fighting Championship 2). The battle took place on April 20, 1997 in Moscow. Oleinik used the guillotine against the Russian Igor Akinin, then in the fight for the silver he lost to Leonid Efremov - he lost consciousness during a choke hold, leading the score 4: 1. Having won the 3rd place in the weight category of 85 kg, Boa realized that he was waiting for a career as a fighter.

In the following year, Oleinik developed in the jiu-jitsu technique, sparred with black belt holders and masters of sports, lighter or, on the contrary, heavier athletes, practiced techniques in the stalls, a suffocating technique.

According to Aleksey's personal confessions, it was useful to meet Igor Vovchanchin, a kickboxer, a mixed style fighter. Then Boa weighed 85 kg, and the opponent - one and a half times more, "it looked like a big bear and a little pit bull." They fought non-stop, once sparring for 100 minutes.

In March 1998, Gennady Minka organized the Challenge: Clan Minamoto vs. World Team, the second important battle in Oleinik's sports career. The best representatives of martial arts in the world, including Mike Tyson and the Gracie clan from Brazil, were called to a fight with representatives of the Kharkov club.

The 10 best members of the Minamoto clan, including Alexei, were preparing for the tournament, six of them were to enter the octagon. According to Oleinik's recollections, training was carried out 3 times a day: for endurance, for strength, for “explosion”, work on striking technique.

At the tournament, Boa clashed with American Clarence Tetch and knocked him down. The Minamoto clan defeated the guest stars of martial arts with a score of 5: 1. Not without casualties: in the third battle, Douglas Dage, a representative of the Gracie clan, died from the excessive aggressiveness of the opponent. As Oleinik recalls, the death was preceded by a theatrical pause, during which the girl-model serving the battle put a rose in the octagon and went into the darkness in deathly silence.

Subsequent Ukrainian tournaments - "Interpride" (1999) and "Land of Peresvet" (2001) - Boa won without difficulty. Deciding to develop, he set his sights on the Russian ring. In 2004, he took part in 5 fights of the M-1 promotion, losing only once - Alexei lost consciousness from a stranglehold from Brazilian Flaviu Luis Moura.

In 2006 he strangled three rivals in pankration competitions, conquered the Black Sea Cup in Anapa, but lost to American Cheil Sonnen at BodogFIGHT - USA vs. Russia ". In the battle with the Russian Shamil Nurmagomedov in 2007, he first demonstrated the most difficult choke hold - Guruma Jime Sode, or "Ezekiel's strangulation", which later became the athlete's calling card.

The boa constituted rivals at KSW 9, MMA Professional Cup and Mix Fight Tournament. From 2007 to 2009, Oleinik fought 27 fights, of which three defeats and one draw (so far the only one in Alexey's career).

In 2012, as part of the M-1 Challenge 31, the athlete first met Jeff Monson, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion. A year later, the fighters clashed again, and this time the victory went to Oleinik.

At the same time, Boa, by chance, shared the octagon with Mirka CroKop Filipovich. Alexander Emelianenko was supposed to fight the Croatian kickboxer, but because of a fight in a cafe, the Russian athlete was removed from the competition. Oleinik was offered to take the place.

On November 9, 2013, Boa came out against CroCop and used a choke hold in the last seconds of the fight. The victory remained with the Russian fighter.

Alexei Oleinik met his future wife Tatyana in 2007, a few months after the defeat of the American Cheil Sonnen. In an interview, Tatyana said that Boa wanted to end his sports career.

Fate took the decision “to do everything together” literally: at the combat sambo tournament, Boa had no one to second, and Tatiana took her place in the corner of the octagon.

From that moment on, Tatyana assists Oleinik in every fight. The couple has five children: three boys and two girls. The eldest daughter Pauline is an eyewitness to the mass execution on February 14, 2018 at Parkland School, Florida.
