Biography

A person who tells about the culture and history of the Urals and Siberia, who made a contribution to the development of the regions. The biography is replete with travel and cultural projects.

Childhood and youth

Alexey Viktorovich Ivanov was born in Nizhny Novgorod (at that time the city was called Gorky) on November 23, 1969. The boy's parents worked as shipbuilding engineers. Almost immediately after the replenishment in the family, the Ivanovs moved to Perm, the Ural city on the Kama River, which had its own shipyard.

Alyosha finished school in Perm, but for a diploma he went to Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) located near Perm. The boy's childhood dream of becoming a writer seemed closer to the profession of a journalist. Therefore, the student's choice fell on the Faculty of Journalism. However, after studying to be a press representative for only a year and realizing how far the profession is from a writing career, Ivanov left the walls of the university.

In 1990, the unlucky student again entered the same Ural State University. This time the choice fell on the Faculty of Art History. For admission, the young man even had to submit a fake certificate stating that he was an employee of the museum. Without a referral from the place of work, the faculty was not enrolled. In 1996, the graduate becomes a certified art critic.

In his student years, Alexei Viktorovich's hobby for local history began. The young man disappeared in the editorial office of the Uralsky Sledopist newspaper, helping to arrange the material in the issue, doing editorial work. The same magazine published his debut fantastic story. However, Ivanov did not become a science fiction writer. But literary talent manifests itself in new novels, which, however, no one was in a hurry to print, so unpublished manuscripts were gathering dust on the table.

Literature

The first novel of the writer, which was published in 2003 and brought fame to the author, is "Heart of Parma". A book was published under the patronage of the creator of historical and detective works L.A. Yuzefovich. Critics find it difficult to pinpoint the genre of the novel. The motives of the Ural life coexist with a fictional artistic plot. Despite the mixed reaction of literary scholars, the book was warmly received by the readers.

Working on the plot and publication of the work, Ivanov organized a local history museum for children. The festival of the same name was organized in the Perm region and was held annually from 2006 to 2009.

In 2010, the writer sharply expressed his public position on the cultural policy of the Perm authorities. The “cultural revolution” carried out by the then governor of the region Oleg Chirkunov together with cultural and art workers Boris Milgram and Marat Gelman angered Ivanov.

According to the writer, such a revolution became a cover for corrupt actions and the waste of money from the budget on dubious cultural projects. It is worth noting that, in the end, the characters became participants in scandals, and some of them even became involved in prosecutorial inspections and criminal cases.

As for Ivanov, he broke off relations with Perm and left for Yekaterinburg, where he continued to work with the support of local authorities. On his personal website, Alexey Viktorovich admitted that he does not like Moscow and Perm, but this has nothing to do with readers.

The novel that truly glorified the author is the sad story of the life of the average resident of the province, who is forced to get a job at a school to support his family. The work was written by Ivanov in 1995, while serving as a security guard. It is noteworthy that the author restored the manuscript twice, since he had lost it.

The adaptation of the novel was released in 2013. The charming and charismatic Konstantin Khabensky, who played the main role in the film, worked on the same site with ordinary schoolchildren. Filming took place in Moscow and the Perm Territory.

The picture received recognition not only of spectators, but also of critics, taking the Grand Prix of "Kinotavr". The rights to stage the play based on the novel were purchased by more than 50 Russian theaters. By the way, the production is also taking place on the stage of the Theater-Theater in Perm, the artistic director of which is the same Boris Milgram.

Alexey Viktorovich has published more than a dozen fiction novels. In addition, the writer's creative piggy bank contains 6 books in non-fiction format. Most of the books were published in the form of colorful albums containing, in addition to the text, hundreds of photos.

As the author notes, it is a mistake to consider projects as local history projects. Local lore involves the archival study of information about a particular region. The object of research by Ivanov's team is a historical or cultural event, studied using open sources and natural history research.

The book "Eburg" focuses on the period of the 90s in the culture and life of Yekaterinburg. The Pitchfork project highlights the events of the Pugachev rebellion and the impact on the development of a number of regions, republics and countries studied in the book. At the same time, a wide range of territories is covered, even Estonia and Poland. The formation and strengthening of the state system on the territory of Siberia from the time of the same Pugachev to the empire of Peter the Great is considered in the "Wilds" project.

The Ridge of Russia project has become a large-scale project. This is the first book published in the list of non-fiction works of the author. The publication of the novel in 2009 was the consequence of a four-part documentary television project shot by the writer in collaboration with Leonid Parfenov. The presenters travel along the roads of the Urals, telling about the peculiarities of the area. The project was broadcast on Channel One, and also became the most expensive documentary television film shot.

Literary critics note that the style of the writer changes from book to book. All of his projects are diverse both in form and content. The syllable and presentation of the plot are so opposite that it is difficult for an uninformed reader to understand that the author, for example, of "The Heart of Parma" and "The Geographer Drank the Globe" is the same prose writer.

Alexey Viktorovich has repeatedly become a nominee for receiving prestigious literary awards. However, until 2016, the author refused to participate and offered awards. In 2016, the novel "Bad Weather" about the friendship of two Afghan veterans was recognized as the book of the year among contemporary prose writers.

fact

Personal life

The public and civic position of the writer, the popularity of his novels and projects with the audience does not mean the openness of his personal life. Nothing is known about the writer's family; the author of dozens of books himself prefers not to dwell on this topic. In an interview, Ivanov confines himself to commenting on the professional side of life.

Alexey Viktorovich mentioned that he is married and has a daughter, but did not give any further details. It is generally accepted that the plots of the writer's works of art are autobiographical. Ivanov in an interview refuted this statement, explaining that the actions of the novels can take place in the atmosphere with which the writer was faced. At the same time, the author himself has nothing in common with the heroes and characters of the books.

fact

Alexey Ivanov now

The author of historical and artistic works remains true to his signature theme. In January 2018, the second volume of the grandiose novel about the conquest of Siberia "Tobol" was published. Based on the work, a film and a television series are being shot. Ivanov, who wrote the scripts for the films, did not agree with the director's view of the plot and refused to mention his name in the credits. Channel "Russia-1" began production of a series based on the novel "Bad Weather".

The author meets with readers in Russia and Europe. Travels and meetings of Alexey Viktorovich are reflected on the Instagram page of producer Yulia Zaitseva. The writer himself does not maintain pages in social networks.
