Alexander was born in January 1947 in the village of Uisk, Chelyabinsk Region. At birth, the boy was diagnosed with a heart defect. In addition, up to 3 years old, he lagged behind in development. In addition to him, three more sons grew up in the family, Alexander was the eldest, and one of his brothers died in childhood. When Sasha was 5 years old, trouble happened to him. Alexander's parents were amateur athletes and from childhood instilled a love of sports in all their sons. My father worked at school, was a physical education teacher, sometimes even competed on skis with other rural teachers and won more than once. My mother also loved this sport, although she worked as an accountant.

Since childhood, Sasha was fond of skiing, studying in the 5th grade, the boy first won the competition, which was organized by the newspaper "Pionerskaya Pravda" and even presented the winners with prizes. However, having received a secondary education, Tikhonov entered the Chelyabinsk School of Factory Training. And the first job in the biography of the future champion was at a metallurgical plant, where he mastered the basics of refractory masonry.

2 years after starting work at the plant, Tikhonov nevertheless moved to Novosibirsk and there he entered the technical school of physical culture. Moreover, the young man did not immediately decide on a specific sport in which he would develop, and, in addition to skiing, he was engaged in speed skating and cycling. And having received his education, Alexander went to serve in the army.

Tikhonov's first coach was Oleg Nikolaevich Gorokhov, who worked with the guy even before he left for the army. And when he returned, they continued training, which subsequently brought the young man to the level of the team of the national team. The first serious competitions in the career of an athlete appeared in 1966.

The young man was 19 years old when he overtook all rivals in the junior competitions in individual races for 10 and 15 km. In the relay he made a race with adult athletes, where he showed the same excellent results, which allowed him to get into the ski team of the Soviet Union.

During a summer training session in 1966, Tikhonov injured his leg, this case became fatal for the future biathlete. He was sent for treatment to the Estonian city of Otepää, at that time biathletes were held there. The man did not exercise because of the crutches. The coach of the USSR national biathlon team, Alexander Privalov, was just in the Olympic village and invited Tikhonov to shoot together. The athlete hit 5 targets with five shots, which helped Privalov to see the potential in Alexander.

At that time, people for the relay were recruited into the biathlon team of the USSR national team. But this option was better than nothing, and Alexander continues his journey until he meets a spare member of the Soviet team, who gives the athlete a suitable ski. As a result, the man passed the baton only to the ninth in a row. But no less strong team members quickly made up for lost time and brought the USSR gold.

Then the athlete participated in the Biathlon World Championships in Lake Placid and took gold in the relay with the team, also won first places from the Soviet national team in 1973 and 1974. And in 1976, at the Olympics in Innsbruck, the final stage flawlessly passed, and the team again receives a gold medal. In 1977, at the championship, he won 1st place in the 10 km sprint and second in the 20 km race.

The last time at the Winter Olympics Tikhonov performed in 1980 and became the Olympic champion for the fourth time. This victory was the last for Tikhonov. Then the man devoted himself to coaching, and in 1982 he became the head coach of the Soviet national team of the youth biathlon team.

For some time, Alexander's career was not associated with biathlon. Together with former athletes, he was engaged in entrepreneurship, tried to work in tourism, car sales, production and sale of bread products. In the Rostov Region he produced and sold grain crops, established meat and fish production, and later created an equestrian club. In 1996, the man received the post of president of the Russian Biathlon Union, where he stayed until 2008.

In the summer of 2000, the news about the arrest of Alexander Tikhonov and his brother Viktor thundered in the media. The men were charged with organizing the attempted murder of Aman Tuleev, who was then governor of the Kemerovo region. Tikhonov's brother immediately confessed, and Alexander denied any involvement in the case. Despite this, the man's measure of restraint was changed to a recognizance not to leave the place.

In February 2001, with the permission of the investigator, Alexander went to Moscow, where, according to his assurances, he would undergo surgery on his legs. After 2 months, the investigation ended, but Tikhonov never appeared in court. Having established that he left for Austria, the man was put on the international wanted list. In the meantime, trials were taking place in Russia, Viktor was sentenced to 4 years in prison. Investigators proved that, at the request of Mikhail Zhivilo, he met with the killer and gave him an advance in the amount of $ 179,000.

Alexander's trial took place later. The man returned to his homeland only in 2006, he was arrested and in 2007 found guilty of preparing an attempt on the governor's life, sentencing him to 3 years in prison. The man was released in the courtroom in connection with the amnesty in honor of the 55th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
