With this production, his group won a city competition, which gave him the desire to devote himself to the career of an actor. After school, Alexander made more than one attempt to enter the university and each time he failed the entrance exams.

Waiting for next year to apply to the institute, he got a job as a counselor in a city camp, at the same time attended the Blue Bridge theater studio. Together with other artists, he played in a play based on Nikolai Erdman's play "The Suicide", where the director and teacher Arkady Iosifovich Katsman saw him. He advised the talented young man to enter the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography.

Stroyev's career as an actor began with theatrical stage, while still in his student years he worked at the St. Petersburg theater "Narodny Dom", then in his last year he moved to the Theater of Satire on Vasilievsky.

Having received a diploma of higher education, he got a job in the St. Petersburg Theater for Young Spectators named after A. A. Bryantsev, but finally settled only in the Youth Theater of his native city, where he got in 1995. Since 2008, he began to transfer his knowledge of acting to students of the Baltic Institute of Ecology, Politics and Law, where he headed the Department of Theater Arts.

Stroev's debut in cinema took place in 1995, it was a short film "Trofim", where he appeared only in an episode, but marked the beginning of his filmography. In the late 1990s and the first half of the 2000s, Alexander played many striking characters, ranging from the charming cynic and ideologue of terror Azef in the historical series "Stolypin ... Unlearned Lessons" and ending with Count Grigory Orlov in the adventure tape "Pen and Sword" ... At the same time, Stroyev not only starred, he also directed pictures and himself staged performances at the St. Petersburg Youth Theater on Fontanka.
