Biography
At the Russian Figure Skating Championships, held in Chelyabinsk in 2016, a new star of single figure skating was lit on the ice arena - 18-year-old Muscovite Alexander Samarin. Although this was not the first performance of a young skater, it was then that he was noticed, and following the results of the competition, Alexander was selected for the European Championship.
fact
Childhood and youth
Alexander Vladimirovich Samarin was born in Moscow on June 15, 1998. The parents of the future skater are also athletes, albeit not so famous: the mother was engaged in swimming, and the father was engaged in many sports at the same time. Vladimir Samarin worked in the field of journalism and passed on to his son his experience, in particular, knowledge of foreign languages. The skater's grandfathers worked as military diplomats.
Alexander repeatedly mentioned in an interview that he owes his success and sporting achievements to his parents, who have invested a lot of pedagogical work in his son. Although Alexander now recalls that he saw his father only in the morning and before bedtime due to the constant employment of Vladimir Samarin at work, the skater emphasizes that it is the father's faith in the success of his son that helps him achieve high results in sports.
The athlete talks about his childhood with reluctance, does not like to devote strangers to his personal life. Alexander says that he has always been a modest, obedient and calm child, did not enter into open conflicts, did not suit his parents with teenage riots. Samarin received his general secondary education at the Moscow school №1288 named after. Hero of the Soviet Union N.V. Trojan.
After receiving a school leaving certificate, Alexander focused on his sports career. Nevertheless, Samarin understands that a sports career is short-lived, so in the future he plans to become a coach, for which he studies at the Russian State University of Physical Culture, Sports, Youth and Tourism.

Figure skating
Alexander first appeared on the ice at the age of four, then the first coach of the future figure skater Lyubov Fedorchenko considered the boy's potential. Having mastered the basic elements of figure skating, eight-year-old Alexander went to the honored coach of Russia Inna Germanovna Goncharenko. Alexander won his first sports victory at the age of 11.
In 2009, the figure skating tournament NRW Trophy was held in Germany, where beginners competed. There Alexander earned his first gold medal. And already next year, 2010, Samarin took part in the international Crystal Skate competition in Moscow, where he took second place. The coach expected Alexander's dizzying success at the Russian Youth Championship, but on the eve of the competition Samarin had health problems, because of which he withdrew his candidacy.
But already in the 2012-2013 season, Alexander won two bronze medals in the Junior Grand Prix and showed a good result at the Russian Championship among adults, finishing eighth. Intense training soon brought the figure skater second place at the Russian Youth Championship.
The 2013-2014 season turned out to be less productive for Alexander. The Youth Grand Prix brought Samarin the fourth place. At the adult championship of Russia, Alexander for the first time in his sports biography performed the most difficult element in figure skating - the triple axel, but only 13 appeared in the rating. championship of Russia. Having performed at the competitions, Samarin refused to further work with Inna Goncharenko.
Alexander Samarin entered the new season 2014-2015 with a new coaching staff: Svetlana Sokolovskaya and Elena Germanovna Buyanova (nee Vodorezova). Under the guidance of a new coach and choreographer, Alexander immediately achieved success: Samarin brought a bronze medal for the Youth Grand Prix from France, and a silver medal from the Czech Republic.
The debut of the Russian figure skater in international adult competitions was also successful: second place in the Ice Challenge. At the Challenger competitions held in Austria, Alexander became the eighth, at the Russian figure skating championship, the eleventh, and at similar competitions among young men he earned a silver medal.
By the next season, Samarin mastered a new complex element - a quadruple sheepskin coat, which he demonstrated to the audience and judges at the Youth Grand Prix. The result of improving the technique and skill in the execution of jumping elements were gold medals from Croatia and Warsaw, as well as silver at the Russian Championship among youth. The breakthrough in the skater's career was a small silver medal at the 2016 World Junior Championships, which he earned for his short program.
fact
Personal life
Given Alexander's secrecy in terms of his family, the details of the athlete's personal life rarely become known to fans. Nevertheless, the media assure that the heart of the young athlete is free. This is all the more surprising since the tall (Alexander's height is 178 cm), the charming blonde is popular among young figure skating fans.
During his trips to competitions, Alexander has time to glimpse the sights, photos of which he sometimes publishes on Instagram. So, in Sochi, a young man, accompanied by his coach, visited the Bolshoi Theater. In his free time, the young man reads books, listens to music and even shoots a bow.

Alexander Samarin now
The 2016-2017 season was the last for Alexander in the youth competitions, he had to prepare for a new level in his career. The performances in Talin and Saransk brought the athlete two gold medals. In the final of the Grand Prix in France, Samarin took silver, as well as at the Russian Championship. However, speaking at the European Championship, the Russian figure skater was in the eighth overall ranking.
Not having time to start preparing for the 2017-2018 season, Alexander injured his leg, which is why he could not start training on time. Samarin received only one week to prepare for a performance in Sochi, but at the box office he tried to perform a quadruple toothed jump Lutz, but the injured leg and insufficient training time let the skater down.
At the international figure skating competition Ondrej Nepela Memorial, the Russian was fifth in the overall ranking. But already in October 2017, at the Grand Prix held in Regina, Alexander performed the most difficult combination of the quadruple lutz-triple sheepskin coat, thanks to which he confidently took the bronze medal. And from Shanghai Samarin brought home gold in the same season, after which he was preparing to compete in the Russian championship.
Mikhail Kolyada won the Russian championship again, and Alexander won bronze. In January 2018, the skater went to the European Championship in Moscow, where he closed the top six.
