Career and politics
In 1990, Alexander Pochinok took advantage of the newly opened quota of the Academy of Sciences and became a people's deputy. In the same year, he acquired membership in the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR. At first, the official was a secretary, then he took the post of deputy chairman of the commission on budget, taxes and prices, and then chairman of the Supreme Council on these issues. The official was a member of the presidium and was a representative of the Left Center - Cooperation faction and the Army Reform organization.
The media regularly featured attacks on Pochinok's oppositional opinion and criticism of Boris Yeltsin's strategy. The official advocated tough financial tactics and was among the authors of the deficit budget, which in 1993 was approved by the Armed Forces. The referendum of the same year caused the condemnation of the Supreme Soviet by the politician and initiated a conflict with the executive branch.
After analyzing the situation, Pochinok initially advocated the termination of Yeltsin's powers, supporting Alexander Rutskoy, but later changed his mind. Taking part in the dissolution of the Supreme Soviet, in 1993 Alexander Pochinok received the post of Deputy Minister of Finance and became a State Duma deputy, representing the Russian Choice party.
Pochinok replaced the chairman of the committee on budget, taxes, banks and finance, and then was promoted to chairman. Already in 1997, the politician took over the leadership of the State Tax Service of the country, using the recommendations of Anatoly Chubais.
Since 1998, the official has been managing the finance department and the monetary regulation apparatus of the country. A year later, he returned to the tax field as Minister of Taxes and Levies, retaining this post after taking office as President Vladimir Putin in 1999. The statesman was the initiator of the codification in the field of tax legislation, eliminating the previously prevailing contradictions in interpretations and regulations.
In 2000, Alexander Pochinok headed the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, losing the previous post to Gennady Bukaev. While working in the new position, the official encouraged the monetization of benefits. The reform was assessed ambiguously, provoking gossip and rallies in society. Subsequently, the minister stated that he was a supporter of an alternative solution that provided the citizen with a choice.
In the same period, the official was involved in a scandal with a deal with the Foreign Trade Firm RD. The organization paid an export tax of $ 50 million by purchasing a treatment plant from a third-party company for 5 times the payment. The country's Prosecutor General's Office revealed the fact of fraud, and an investigation was undertaken, during which a large amount of documentation on the case was burned. Justifying his participation in the case, Pochinok assured the media that he opposed the tax payment, but was under pressure from higher authorities.
2004 brought administrative reform, which resulted in the abolition of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development. Alexander Pochinok became an assistant to the chairman of the government, whose post at that time was held by Mikhail Fradkov. In the same year, the official was promoted to deputy presidential envoy for social and economic issues in the Southern Federal District.
The media, which had previously discussed the official's love for luxury and antiques, now mentioned him in his name in connection with the hunger strike of the miners of the closed Mine Construction Directorate. Coming out of difficult situations with an unsullied reputation, Alexander Pochinok became famous for ambiguous comments, but this did not spoil his political biography.
In 2007, Pochinok joined the Federation Council, representing the Krasnodar Territory, and became a co-author of the “reverse mortgage” initiative. The project assumed the possibility of receiving material payments from the state, subject to the pledge of expensive living space. The reform proposed by him caused a stormy resonance in the media and society.
Alexander Pochinok was active in the political sphere, and was also a professor at the Russian Economic Academy. G. Plekhanov. He became the author of scientific papers, articles and a book called "Fiscal", published in 2012. Pochinok hosted an author's program at the Echo of Moscow radio station.

The reason for parting with the mother of his only daughter Olga was an affair with a former student Natalia. The relationship with her withstood threats and litigation with her ex-wife, which was watched by the yellow press.
In a marriage with his second wife, Alexander Pochinok had two children. Natalia presented the politics of the sons of Peter and Alexander. The boys' parents were happy in their personal lives, and the statesman in every possible way contributed to the development of his wife's career.
