Biography
Alexander Gromov is a Russian science fiction writer, laureate of several literary awards. Bibliophiles of the post-Soviet space were read with works with fictional worlds, their works received recognition in Europe. In 2014, Russian cinema was replenished with a fantastic film based on the story of Alexander Nikolaevich.
The early years of Alexander Gromov's life are shrouded in mystery. Journalists and fans are mainly interested in the work of the writer - in interviews and in his portfolio, scanty information about childhood and adolescence occasionally slips. Alexander Nikolaevich is a native Muscovite, born in mid-August 1959, into a family of employees.
The mathematical mindset and interest in engineering led to the capital's Power Engineering Institute. The young engineer was immediately accepted into the staff of the All-Russian Research Institute of Radio Engineering, and three years later he moved to the Russian Research Institute of Space Instrumentation, to which he gave 16 years.

In his youth, Gromov was not attracted to science fiction, he read a little Kazantsev, Gansovsky, Gurevich. Three years later, Alexander took up the pen.
Gromov began to try himself in the role of a writer back in the 80s, but his literary debut took place in 1991 - the story "Tecodont" appeared on the pages of the magazine "Ural Pathfinder", and a little later the novel "Bottom Line" was published here. This was the beginning of a dizzying creative career.
In 1995, the first science fiction book "Soft Landing" was published, which was a collection of the most successful works accumulated in the author's desk. The publication brought Alexander Nikolayevich the A. Belyaev literary prize. "Soft Landing", the main novel in the collection, was awarded a separate prestigious Interpresscon award. In the future, Gromov will become a laureate of almost all awards in Russian science fiction, from Roscon to Sigma-F and Star Bridge.
And in 2008, the European Science Fiction Society will name him the best author of the year. Fans of science fiction warmly welcomed every work of the writer, because he did not differ in fertility. Among the most discussed works - "The Forbidden World", "Feudal", "Calculator", "Rebus Factor".

Screen adaptations
The writer has long dreamed of making a film based on his work. And now it happened - in December 2014, the science fiction film "The Calculator" was released on the big screens of the country with Evgeny Mironov, Anna Chipovskaya and Vinnie Jones in the lead roles. The director was Dmitry Grachev.
The picture is based on the story of the same name, written by order for the magazine "If". The literary brainchild, according to the author, was tortured, the work was hard. As a result, the planet Khlyab was born with swampy outskirts, the inhabitants of which are punished by exile to the Sargasso bog. Six years passed before the work became interested in cinema.
Gromov wrote the script back in 2006, as a test of the pen in the new craft of the screenwriter. The work was sent to 20 film companies, responses came from seven. But it never came to filming until Grachev drew attention to the "Calculator". The director managed to convince the producers that the story should be filmed. The author was pleased with the screen version, although the script has undergone significant changes. In an interview with Kanobu, he says:

Personal life
Alexander Gromov is married and has a daughter. The writer is an incorrigible romantic, an inveterate fisherman, loves travel - traditionally once a year, with the arrival of the May heat, he sets out to conquer the northern rivers by kayak. Last year, the route ran along the scenic Selizharovka-Volga route. Kayaking is reflected in his work: prose is filled with motives of overcoming, fighting obstacles.
Another hobby of science fiction writer was amateur astronomy, Gromov even built two telescopes with his own hands. For the last 9 years he has been a member of the Astronomical and Geodetic Society. Alexander Nikolaevich, as before, is full of strength and creative ideas, every year he generously shares new works with readers. In early spring, the writer put an end to the drafts of the "Star Pyramid", defining the work as a "comic cosmo opera".
