Alexander Dmitrievich Barabanov was born on June 17, 1994 in the family of a special forces officer who served in the city of Peterhof. Then it became known that a sports complex was opening a five-minute walk from the Barabanovs' house, where it would be possible to play hockey. The father and mother came to the conclusion that this was a promising male occupation and, having agreed with local mentors, took the children there.

Alexander immediately liked skating and working with a stick, and very soon it became clear that he had a talent for this. A year later, having demonstrated the qualities necessary for a striker, the teenager joined one of the youth teams.

In an interview with reporters, Barabanov spoke about the girl Valeria, who was present in his personal life for many years and eventually became his legal wife. She shares Alexander's hobbies in skiing and tourism, and during the hockey season she closely follows the game.

Successful performance at the international level helped the development of the club's career, and in the 2014 season Barabanov got into an adult SKA. Having made his debut in the Continental Hockey League, the athlete distinguished himself in the game with Dynamo Moscow and replenished the prize moneybox with the title of the best newcomer.
