Biography
Alexander Vladimirovich Emelianenko is a professional mixed martial arts fighter, multiple champion of Russia, Europe and the world in combat sambo, master of sports in sambo and judo.
Alexander was born on August 2, 1981 in the city of Stary Oskol, Belgorod Region. The boy's parents - gas welder Vladimir Alexandrovich and teacher Olga Fedorovna Emelianenko - raised four children: daughter Marina and sons Fedor, Alexander and Ivan.
The elder brother Fedor Emelianenko started playing sports early. Every time he took to training, he took little Sasha with him, who soon began to show interest in classes. At the age of 7, Alexander entered the sambo and judo section. The boy's mentor was the coach Vladimir Mikhailovich Voronov.
After the 9th grade, Sasha entered the vocational school of Stary Oskol, where he received the profession of a gas-electric welder. At the same time, the young man did not stop training, gradually improving his performance. In 1998, Alexander was awarded the title of Master of Sports in Judo. After graduating from college in 1999, the young fighter took part in the European Combat Sambo Championship and received the first gold medal.

In the early 2000s, Alexander signed a contract for cooperation with the Russian Top Team company, where he trained with Russian sports stars Andrey Kopylov and Volk Khan. The corporation also included the older brother Fedor. Both Emelianenko experienced strict control from the vice-president of the World SAMBO Federation Valery Pogodin, and shortly after Fedor received the Pride heavyweight champion belt, the brothers left for Red Devil, whose main manager was Vadim Finkelstein.
By 2003, Alexander received the title of Master of Sports in Sambo, after which three times - in 2003, 2004 and 2006 - he became the world champion in this category. In the same year he entered the correspondence department of the Faculty of Economics of Belgorod State University, from which he graduated in 2009.
The first fight of Alexander Emelianenko took place in 2003 at the competition of the largest MMA organization at that time - Pride. The Russian athlete played against the Brazilian Asuerio Silva, whom he won by the decision of the judges. The next time, Emelianenko faced the three-time winner of Meca Vale Tudo and the finalist of IVC 14, Brazilian sambist Angelo Araujo at the Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye tournament. Alexander finished the competition with a victory again. In 2004, a Pride tournament was held against the Australian Spartan Reality Fight champion Matt Focky, in which Alexander won using the choke technique.
The first defeat of Alexander Emelianenko took place in a battle with the Croat Mirko Cro Cop, who already had 35 fights behind him. An experienced athlete defeated the newcomer Emelianenko with a high-kick, knocking out his opponent. Two months later, Alexander held a meeting with Carlos Baretto, who was ending his sports career. The superfight took place as part of the Mix-Fight M-1 Middleweight GP Championship. Having defeated the opponent, Alexander Emelianenko went to Pride, where he took part in the competition against the Englishman James Thompson. The victory followed after the opponent's knockout in the first minutes of the battle.
The next entrances to the ring against the IAFC 1 champion Ricardo Morais and the Dutchman Rene Ruse ended for Alexander's opponents with knockouts. In 2005, Emelianenko met with the Polish fighter Pavel Nastula, who was in many ways superior to the Russian. After a grueling struggle, Alexander won another victory.
A year later, a big Grand Prix Pride tournament took place, in which Emelianenko met with Josh Barnett and Sergey Kharitonov. The second athlete, Alexander's former teammate, almost knocked Emelianenko down three minutes after the start of the fight, but after a short struggle, Sergei missed a number of strong punches and fell without returning to the rack. The fight went down in history as one of the most interesting in Alexander's sports biography, the video of the tournament is freely available on YouTube hosting. The athlete has effectively completed his collaboration with Pride.
At the next tournament at 2H2H Pride and Honor, which was held in Holland, Emelianenko lost to his opponent Fabrizio Werdum, master of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After almost a year hiatus, Alexander appeared in the ring with Eric Pele as part of the Battle of the Nations competition in St. Petersburg. The tournament was attended by the presidents of Russia and Italy - Vladimir Putin and Silvio Berlusconi. Alexander Emelianenko won. Alexander's next tournament is M-1 MFC "Russia against America", in which the opponent of the Russian fighter was athlete Jesse Gibson. Alexander almost lost, but, using a painful hold with the use of the elbow, put his opponent in the ring.
In the same year, Emelianenko managed to visit Canada for the Hardcore Championship Fighting Title Wave competition. The rival of the Russian athlete was the UFC champion Dan Bobish, whom Alexander knocked out of balance after the first minute of the fight. Returning to his homeland, the fighter took part in a super fight against Silveo Santos, which took place in St. Petersburg at the M-1 Challenge. The victory remained with the Russian heavyweight (Alexander's height is 198 cm, weight - 115 kg). At the beginning of 2009, a fight took place with Ibragim Magomedov, whom Alexander sent to checkmate in the very first minute of the competition.
Alexander Emelianenko began performing professionally in the fall of 2009 after signing a contract with the Golden Boy Promotions. The mixed martial arts master made his debut in a charity tournament dedicated to the founder of Russian boxing E. Lipinsky. The rival of Alexander was the same new professional Khizir Pliev. The fight lasted four rounds, a draw was declared by the decision of the judges.
At the end of 2010, the fighter played against Peter Graham in the BodogFight tournament, but lost to his opponent. After a year's break in sports activities, Emelianenko entered the ring against Magomed Malikov and again lost in the first seconds of the round. In 2012, Emelianenko rehabilitated the name with three victorious battles against Konstantin Glukhov, Ibragim Magomedov and Tadas Rimkevichus, but in the fourth competition he was defeated by American Jeff Monson.
In December of the same year, the M-1 company, headed by President Vadim Finkelstein, terminated the contract with Alexander unilaterally, citing violations by the athlete. There were suggestions in the press that the reason for the breakup was periodic drunken scandals with the participation of Alexander Emelianenko. The fighter took time out and decided to spend three months on Mount Athos, in one of the monasteries.
In May 2013, the athlete returned to the ring, taking part in the Legend tournament against the American wrestler Bob Sapp, who was knocked out. In June of the same year, Alexander had a duel with the Brazilian Jose Rodrigo Gelke, who was also defeated by TKO. In January 2014, Alexander lost to compatriot Dmitry Sosnovsky.

For some time, the fighter led a riotous lifestyle, regularly getting into drunken scandals. In 2013, the athlete was featured in the Comedy Club. In 2014, law enforcement agencies received a statement about the rape of 26-year-old Polina Stepanova by Alexander Emelianenko. The athlete was put on the all-Russian wanted list. In May 2015, Alexander received a term of 4.5 years, which he went to serve in the Borisoglebsk general regime colony in the Voronezh region.
