Biography
If you manage to meet Alan Moore on the street (or at least look at his photo), then you can confuse him with a homeless person. It's hard to accept that the comic book legend and creator of V for Vendetta, The Guardians, Constantine and the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen looks like a wild man with a tangled beard. In addition, he is a recluse who enjoys magic and believes in the Roman serpent god Glycon.
fact
Childhood and youth
Alan Moore was born on November 18, 1953 in the city of Northampton, which is located in the UK. The maternity hospital in which he was born was located in the Boroughs working district. It was here that the future writer spent his entire youth.
In an interview, the author admitted that, despite the fact that life in the area was not the easiest one due to illiteracy and low incomes, Moore loved him and did not expect that it would be possible to live in any other way. Since childhood, he was fond of reading not only books, but also comics about Sherlock Holmes, Captain Nemo, Fantastic Four and The Flash.
In primary school, Alan was the best student thanks to his love of literature. However, later he was transferred to the same team with children from wealthy families who belong to a world whose existence the boy did not even think about. One of the best students in the school from a poor area was unable to cope with the competition from more educated and wealthy peers, which is why he lost his position.
Abandoning his studies, Moore became interested in the use and distribution of "mind-expanding" substances among his peers. For illegal trade, he was expelled from the educational institution, and the school director also disseminated information among his colleagues and asked in no case to admit the young man to his schools and universities. The path to higher education was closed for Alan. He found work in a tannery, from which he was soon fired for smoking marijuana. After that, he began cleaning toilets and creating comics at the same time.

Books and comics
At the beginning of his creative career, the future master of words not only invented small plots, but also illustrated them himself. The first characters created by Moore were animals - the ironic cat Maxwell, the mouse - the political activist Anon, the panda St. Sacras, detective Roscoe Moscow. The uninterrupted release of comics about the last hero in 1979 brought the guy his first regular earnings, and the adventures of Maxwell delighted readers until 1986.
Soon, the writer decided that he was spending too little time thinking about plot details, and focused more on the text than on the illustrations. He wrote a story about Judge Dredd for the popular 2000AD almanac, thanks to which, despite the refusal to publish, Alan was noticed.

After working on the short stories Future Shock and Doctor Who, Moore began receiving more serious commissions, including from Marvel UK and Warrior. It was the anthology publishing house that launched the monthly series Marvelman (later renamed Miracleman) and V for Vendetta, which overnight transformed Moore from a promising newcomer to a superstar.
The author has achieved fame overseas. The popular American publisher DC Comics asked him to write a script for the not-so-successful Swamp Thing comic series. Moore independently created the story of the character from scratch, thinking over a sharp turn in the biography of the Creature. The series benefited from a breath of fresh air and attracted not only old but new readers as well.
In these comics, the occult detective John Constantine first appeared, resembling the author himself - the same cynical and distrustful Englishman from the working class. The hero immediately found his fans and soon found a solo series that became popular.

“V for Vendetta” and “Guardians” were born from ideas of other authors. The first episode tells the story of the events that took place after the nuclear war in Britain, when the fascist party came to power. A former prisoner of one of the concentration camps, hiding his face with a mask of smiling Guy Fawkes, brings the idea of open anarchy to the masses. The hero successfully breaks the system, blowing up government buildings and hunting party leaders.
The story of The Guardians (which is a collaboration between Moore and artist Dave Gibbons) started with the surprise murder of one of the superheroes, and with each chapter became more confusing and deeper, plunging the reader into the atmosphere of the end of the world. At the time of its release, the comic strip was unique in everything - from the detailing of the characters' characters and ending with non-standard applications to each part.

Recurring question "Who is guarding the keepers?" asked readers to ponder the questions: why the majority admire the outlaw masked avengers; whether the heroes have the right to their actions; do they change the world for the better.
Further, from the pen of the writer came out works about the two main characters of the DC universe. In the comic "What Happened to the Man of Tomorrow," he told the final story of Superman, and in "The Killing Joke," he speculated about how long the feud between Batman and the Joker could last.
In 1987, after DC rejected one of Moore's too daring ideas, he decided to stop working with corporations that duplicate films and comics about the same characters from year to year.

At the beginning of the new decade, when Alan broke off contracts with major publishers, he was working on the comic strip about Jack the Ripper "From Hell". In the new graphic novel, Moore discussed the reason for the wave of murders and gave a fresh look at the personality of the famous killer.
The writer's comics are a prolific source for Hollywood blockbusters. Thus, five of his works have already been filmed - twice "Constantine", "League of Outstanding Gentlemen," From Hell, "V means Vendetta", "Guardians". However, the creator himself does not recognize the picture, prohibits the use of his name in the credits and does not receive a cent for renting the film adaptations. The fact is that Moore considers comics to be full-fledged art that does not require additional interpretation.
fact
Personal life
Alan Moore is happy not only in his professional life, but also in his personal life - his wife is the artist Melinda Gabby.

The young people met in the framework of cooperation on the erotic comic "Lost Girls", and a month later the girl had already transported her things to Moore's house. The lovers entered into an official marriage only in 2007. Alan is the father of two children - Amber Moore and Lih Moore.
