Biography
Akhmed Zakayev is a Chechen politician and opposition leader. His biography is intricate but interesting. He was accused of terrorism more than once, but no evidence was presented. Despite all the difficulties, Ahmed managed to avoid charges and not go to jail.
Akhmed Zakayev was born on April 26, 1959 in the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, in the village of Kirovsky. The boy's family was deported to Kazakhstan, but after the birth of their son, the family returned to their homeland, to Urus-Martan.
When the young man graduated from school, he entered the Grozny cultural enlightenment school, the choreographic department. After him, Akhmed studied at the Voronezh State Institute of Arts. From 1981 to 1990, Zakayev worked at the Grozny Drama Theater, where he took part in productions.

Career
In 1994, Akhmed Zakayev was offered the post of Minister of Culture in the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. He held this post until the start of the First Chechen War.
In 1996, after returning from the front, Zakayev worked as Assistant to the President of the CRI for National Security. Ahmed was a participant in negotiations that were supposed to peacefully resolve the crisis. In October 1996, he returned to the post of Minister of Culture.
In 1997, Akhmed ran for president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. He did not take the desired post, but in 1998 he became deputy prime minister. Zakayev worked in the Cabinet of Ministers for 8 years, and in February 2006, Abdul-Halim Sadulayev (President of the CRI) dismissed him from his post and appointed him head of the Foreign Ministry. Ahmed's main task was to lead the process of creating a news agency.

Military service and political activities
On December 11, 1994, the First Chechen War began. From the very beginning, Ahmed was a member of the headquarters of the Southwestern Front. From March to April 1995, Zakayev defended the village of Goiskoye. For this, the field commander received the order "Koman Siy", which means "Honor of the nation". In 1995, Zakayev was the main character on the Urus-Martan front, he was awarded the rank of brigadier general of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. In August 1996, Akhmed, along with other commanders, took part in the capture of Grozny.
The second Chechen war began on August 7, 1999. Akhmed Zakayev commanded a special purpose brigade. It did not last long and in the summer of 2000 had an accident. The bruises were minor, but he left CRI for treatment and never returned. In November 2000, Akhmed Zakayev was appointed the representative of the President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in Turkey. Already in 2001, he was listed in the same position, but only in Western Europe.
In September 2001, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation drew attention to the Chechen leader and put him on the federal wanted list. A month later, in October, the search began at the international level. Ahmed was accused of armed rebellion, organizing an illegal armed group and encroachment on the lives of law enforcement officers.
On October 28, 2002, Zakayev organized the "World Chechen Congress" in Copenhagen. Russia said that the gathering was financed by the terrorists behind the terrorist attack on Dubrovka. The Danish authorities were ready to arrest him on the condition that the Russian Federation provides evidence of the involvement of Ahmed's team in the terrorist attacks. On October 30, he was detained.
However, Lena Ispersen, the head of the Danish Justice Ministry, demanded more information from the Russian authorities and warned that if it did not arrive by November 30, Zakayev would be released. The available information turned out to be insufficient, and Akhmed Zakayev was released on December 4, 2002.
Already on December 5, he was in London. Since the international wanted list was still in force, Ahmed was again arrested at the airport. However, the British actress Vanessa Redgrave and businessman Boris Berezovsky paid a deposit of £ 50,000 for the former field commander. Later, the press circulated a joint photo of a movie star and a disgraced politician.
On January 30, 2003, an order was signed to start the extradition procedure for Akhmed Zakayev. It began only in June. Then a mass of court sessions took place, in which the testimony of numerous witnesses appeared. Priest Philip (Sergei Zhigulin) got confused during the interrogation and retracted his words. There was also a witness Ivan Soloviev, whose name was invented. He, too, often got confused in his testimony and was later called an ordinary bum.
On July 24, 2003, his bodyguard, Dukvakha Dushuyev, spoke out against Akhmed. He stated that Zakayev had issued the abduction and murder orders. Soon Dushuyev said that all the testimonies he gave had been knocked out under torture.
On November 13, 2003, Judge Timothy Workman announced the verdict. He concluded that all the killings of military personnel were committed during the hostilities and the charges were not grounds for extradition. Workman blamed Russia for the deaths of civilians, they say, the authorities did not take any action for 6 years, although they knew where Zakayev was.
The judge correlated the charges and witness statements and concluded that the prosecution of Akhmed was nothing more than the desire of the Russian authorities to exclude him from the peace process. The verdict was passed and the judge released Zakayev. The Russian Federation was ordered to pay legal costs.
During 2004-2006, Zakayev was again accused of terrorist acts. In 2005, there was an attack on Nalchik, the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. In 2006, Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded that the UK extradite Ahmed.
He stated that there is a mass of video materials confirming Zakayev's involvement in criminal activities. The General Prosecutor's Office also claimed that in his interviews the Chechen leader incites hatred and enmity towards Russians.
In 2006, Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov blamed the politician for the death of his father Akhmat Kadyrov, who died during a terrorist attack. However, a year later, Ramzan spoke positively about Zakayev and suggested that he return to Chechnya. True, he ironically noted Ahmed's good acting skills.
In November 2007, Zakayev, guided by a certain telephone vote, declared himself prime minister of Ichkeria, and regarded Kadyrov as Putin's protege, but nevertheless expressed his readiness to cooperate and consider the power in the republic legitimate. On July 27, 2009, the self-proclaimed prime minister announces the end of militant resistance.
In the autumn of the same year, Dukuvakha Abdurakhmanov, who served as chairman of the parliament of the Chechen Republic, issued a decree officially dissolving the government of the unrecognized Ichkeria.
In September 2010, Zakayev was arrested again, but in Poland. He came there to attend the World Chechen Congress. He also stated that he would voluntarily come to the Warsaw prosecutor's office. However, the Polish state authorities warned that the Chechen politician would be immediately detained upon entering the country on the basis of an international warrant. Akhmed was interrogated for six hours, but was soon released.
Akhmed Zakayev, as a politician, was considered the most moderate in the leadership of the unrecognized Ichkeria. He has a high level of intelligence and was often invited to negotiate on a particular issue. It was believed that Ahmed could think rationally and make the right decisions. Thus, he was asked to help in negotiations with the militants who seized a school in Beslan on September 1, 2004.
Some still consider Zakayev a terrorist and accuse him of collaborating with terrorist groups. Others say that he remained the most adequate and sober-minded representative of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. The opinion also persists that Britain supports Chechen fighters and provides them with political asylum. However, the British government, according to its officials, is guided by the laws, and there is not enough evidence of Zakayev's involvement in terrorist acts.
fact
Personal life
Since Akhmed Zakayev's political activities were always tense, he did not talk about his family and personal life. The wife is supposedly named Rose. There is no information about children. Ahmed has two brothers - Ali and Buwadi and two sisters - Laila and Khadija.
fact
Akhmed Zakayev now
Now Akhmed Zakayev lives in London and speaks loudly about Vladimir Putin. The Chechen politician believed that during the second presidential term, the head of state would anger the Russian population and he would have to leave power. Akhmed also suggested that Russia could fall apart into 9 parts, and the president would be removed from the political field in 2019.
