Biography
Born in London to Nigerien parents, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje grew up in the English capital and obtained a master's degree in law. He first turned to a modeling career in Milan before flying to Los Angeles to become an actor.
He made his film debut in Congo (1995), and then rubbed shoulders with big names in several action films, such as Jean-Claude Van Damme in Légionnaire (1998), Brendan Fraser in The Return of the Mummy (2001), or again Matt Damon in The Memory in the Skin (2001). The general public really discovered him in 1997 in the cult prison series Oz where he played a drug addict prisoner gang leader as dangerous as he was clever for four seasons. In 2005, JJ Abrams gave him a regular role in the 2nd season of his hit series Lost, les disparus.
Subscribed to gangster characters and physical roles, Adewale slips into the shoes of the villain of Succeed or Die (2005) where he opposes 50 Cent and figures, alongside his strong television activity, the castings of GI Joe - The awakening of the Cobra (2009), Faster (2010), Killer Elite (2011), Best Plans (2012), Lead in the Head (2013), Thor: The Dark World (id.) and Pompeii (2014). In the latter, the actor plays a formidable warrior fighting in the arena alongside Game of Thrones star Kit Harington.
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje then joined season 5 of this cult HBO series, then the first season of American Odyssey and in 2016 will be Waylon Jones / Killer Croc in the highly anticipated Suicide Squad (2016).
